the sign on the front of the building is gone, the soda cooler is empty.

Lights are out, and nobody's home.

Didn't even last SIX months !!

on a separate note, the Cricket Drive-In at the corner of Main St and Access Rd. (also in Stratford, CT) will be closing it's doors on 12/31.

I've heard that there's a possibility of a move to a different location, but I don't know for sure.

I make the assumption that theFairfield location is still going strong?

Yes, Fairfield location is still there and their website says that they will be adding a location in Monroe, CT sometime in December 2004 with more details to come...

I am sorry to hear that. I would like to know why. I would think that Stratford could support them.

Update on my earlier post today. I stopped by Fairfield SDW for lunch today and was told that Monroe location will be open sometime next week. Also told that the location in Monroe is at the corner of Rt 25 & Rt 59.

Had a couple of hot dogs (plain), a little dry, but still a very good tasting dog. (SDW doesn't have yellow mustard, only brown oh well, I'll have to bring my own next time... ) Although a little bit pricey for the size of the dog, I will definately go back. ( So will my Brother, he liked the Philly Cheese Steak...)

The Monroe location is open and thriving. Stopped in this afternoon, parking lot full (small, but full) and had a New Englander -- equal to the Fairfield version. What with being across the street from the Monroe outpost of Dr. Mike's Ice Cream, 25 & 59 is the place to be. Too bad Duke's BBQ in Clocktower Square closed a while ago....

I must be doing something wrong here , I just read Mike's recent review (12/22/04) of SDW, also saw the proof in the pictures, etc, but when I went there about a month ago, I didn't get split hot dogs, mine were whole unsplit dogs...I guess I don't rate...

IDuring my most recent visit to SDW I was disappointed by the lack of toppings I had requested - so I had to bring the food back for them to put the toppings on. Also the chicken tenders my son wanted were very dry and lacked flavor. They make their own condiments, but the honey mustard for dipping was very sour and vinaigrette-like. Not kid-friendly at all. The fries were all broken 1" pieces and lacked charachter. I don't see what the fuss is about, especially for the price. I'll got to Swanky's where at least I know what I am in for.
