I am leaning towards the Weber or Bullet as suggested by several people here just as a start.
I may start with the bullet, as it is the least expensive and just experiment my way up to the Weber...
I have had different opinions on Weber silver vs gold. I will do lots of looking and comparing before making my choice.
Thanks again to all your suggestions...

===But Jacks (prisonchef smoker also sounds good.. I am going to check them all out and report back on what I buy)=====

I too have used the vertical smoker in the past with good success. It too became destroyed after years of hard work and tough elements. If I recall properly, it was able to do double duty as a small hibachi. There are electric versions of these models and they seem to be easier to find and maybe control the heat with, but I don't know how I feel about that.

While we are on the topic of ribs, we could always talk about different types: spare, baby back, St. Louis and beef. But I want to suggest that folks search out lamb breast, which is essentially nothing more than lamb spare ribs. I found them at a Latino grocery and the price for them is lower than most other types of ribs. I cover them with a dijon mustard and mint jelly glaze when they are finished. They are worth searching out.

Well, those ribs all look sooo good
Last month gourmet featured some called sticky and spicy that looked so good I couldn't resist and I made my own rub, my own sauce, and made 'em the centerpiece of my memorial day cookout!

They were so yummy the hubby talked about them every day for about a week, and still mentions them occaisionally-lots of work, but oh my-
I did use spares instead of baby backs- more meat in my market-I also doubled the sugar in the sauce recipe they gave because it just wasn't right for my taste buds with so little sugar- it only had like 1/4 cup for like 4 cups of sauce-
Here's my pic if the insert thingy works:
