STEAK in Springfield, Mass area

I have been in Springfield for 6 weeks and am going through steak withdrawal. PLEASE, can't someone direct me to a greak steakhous within 50 miles of here? Doesn't have to be a "Roadfood" place--I'm willing to pay for good steak and wine.

I hope you didn't move to Springfield for the food. I'll watch this to see if anyone can come up with anything. I was passing through town last week and stayed in a hotel with the Comcast Channel (mediorce regional programming, channel 8 in Northampton) they ran a feature on great NE steaks at least twice while I was channel surfing. I wasn't able to watch the show for more than a few minutes. But, it would be worthwhile to keep an eye on that channel if you can find a way to see it. Meanwhile, you might want to head to 'hamp. No solid meat and potato places there. But for wine and, although I've never had steak there, some very good food, try the Del Raye on Main street. (Suggestion: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Eat at the bar. Get there as early as you can on Friday or Saturday.) It isn't exactly what you are looking for, but noplace does better with wine and food.

Agreed about Del Raye, but there is also an excellent Argentinian restaurant in NoHo called Caminito. Best to go to Table & Vine in Northampton to buy your own prime meat and cook it yourself.

Pearl's Restaurant, 47 Railroad Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230 (413-528-7767) is about fifty miles from Springfield, most of it on the Mass. Pike, and it's quite excellent. Great Barrington has become a great restaurant town in the last decade and a half.

Try Ruth Chris on the Berlin Turnpike south of Hartford.

Too bad Vallees closed. The Rapids up in Chester re-opened. If nothing it's an interesting place to eat, right on the river. I believe they have steak. I'll check it out and get back to you. Chester's about 30 miles north of Springfield on Route 20.

Thank you Route 11, I have been trying to remember the name of that restaurant, Vallees. It is now a pretty good seafood place, but there was nothing like Vallees. They had great onion rings, too. Thanks for helping my C.R.S. disease.

Jevmass -- I live in Boston. Please read my post again...I thought it was kind of obvious that I was making fun of the idea that there's no good food in Springfield.

BUT no one locally has been able to direct me to a decent steak house, and there are none in the yellow pages. I'm planning to take the advice of Waltpiii and hit Ruth's Chris in Hartford sometime this week for my fix.

You can try Chuck's Steak House in Southwick. Bernie's in Chicopee has a good prime rib, it's a roadfood kind of place.

I lived in Argentina for three years, and this restaurant has the best steak in the area. I have heard good things about the meat at Hofbrau House in West Springfield, but I cannot vouch for it. White Hut is right around the corner from it for great tube steaks.

There is Ruth Chris off exit 25 in Wethersfield, CT/Rocky Hill, CT. At the end of the ramp make a left and go about 1 mile you will see Old Saybrook Fishouse where you can get steak (but when you are in a fish house have the specialty [img][/img]and the restaurant is right next to it.

There is no Ruth Chris in Wethersfield. I believe your directions are to Chuck's Steak House in Rocky Hill. Ruth Chris is on the Berlin Turnpike (Rtes. 5 & 15) in Newington esit 27 off I-91 South. There is Morton's right in downtown Hartford and I suggest J. Gilbert's in Glastonbury, CT.

I'm from the area, though haven't been there in ages, so can't help you out about steak. But when I do go back the best pizza and grinders are at Golden Pizza on Allen Street!
