Sad News from Sundancer

I am very sad to report that Judi Smith, Paul's wife, passed away today at 2:00pm Central Time. Paul and his daughter Paula were present with her at the time. Judi put up a valiant fight for her life for an extended period of time, but eventually the cancer and other aliments overcame her strength. Please join with Janet and I in sharing your support and love for this good man and his family in this time of great sorrow and grief. AL

"How often, when the day is ended and the sun is gone to rest, we pause to stand in awe, beholding the western sky transformed with a radiance that seems to shine out from the very gates of heaven, a wonderful picture painted by the hand of God, and we are lifted and exalted by the beauty and glory of nature. And when a life's day is ended and a loved one is gone to rest, we are somehow lifted above the plane of our everyday life and our souls are permitted to catch faint gleams of the ineffable glory of that spiritual world, and we are comforted with a new assurance that: "There is a mystic borderland that lies just past the limits of our workday world."" My sincere condolences, Paul, in what must be an indescribably difficult time. Please know that our prayers are with you. Will

Al, you know I don't post anymore, but I feel so bad I had to. I've been coming on here reading about this though. And why this day had to come -- you always, always believe in a miracle. I know I did when my mom passed a certain point in her battle with breast cancer. I don't know what else to say except big hugs to Paul and family. Harriet, Shayna & family

I want to thank all my roadfood friends for their thoughts and prayers. I assure you that my daughter, Paula and myself have remained very strong during this very very difficult time. Many of you that has been on this forum has watched this evolve over the last couple of years and given this family much support. Those who have done that, I love you and thanks so much. Judi's physicians advised us that Judi was no longer there, her EEG was flat, her responses were non existent and other vital signs were non existent. We were advised to pull the plug. We did that at 1:45PM central time and by 2:00PM central time, all signs were flat. My personal advice to anyone is to never ever observe this. It broke my heart. Regardless, Judi is gone and will be cremated and returned to Knoxville. I am sorry to report this on roadfood as I know this is a place of good food and joy. Respectfully Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Food, and the enjoyment of it, is a part of life. But so is death. This should be a place of fellowship, for both joy and sorrow. My deepest sympathies for you and Paula. Jennie

Paul and family, I am so sorry for your loss and the gravity and reality of the decision you had to make. My daughters and I had to pull extraordinary life support when my husband's stroke was irreversible. While it was difficult, there really were no other choices. It is hard to let go of someone you have loved and who has been a part of your life, for so long. While it does get better, there is always an emptiness, or for me that is the case. My thoughts are with you, your daughter and all who loved Judi. She is with the Lord and at peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care of yourself. MG

Paul, When one's loved one leaves us, we never, never get over it. Memories will be fond, everlasting and full of love but yet will hurt as they should to prove our humanity over and over. My heart goes out to you, David

Paul, Paula & Mawmaw Smith, It was with many tears in my eyes that I read Al's post. Please know that you all will be in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days. When someone close to us passes, we the living feel the pain, we go through the sorrow, but we should also rejoice. The person we love is no longer in pain, they are no longer suffering, they have taken the next step in life. They have gone beyond our physical world, and entered the next. Greeted by those who have gone before us, Welcoming them home. Paul, you are a very special person, the strength you have shown during the past months is remarkable. When I get home this evening, I will offer a toast: To your strength, To your family & To the life you've shared. I wish I could reach through the net and give you a big hug. Rest Peacefully Judi.
