Sad news for Diner Lovers?

Yesterday's Star-Ledger carried an article about the financial problems that are being experienced by Kullman Industries, the premier manufacturer of the familiar "chrome" diners. After branching out into other types of pre-fabricated buildings, Sam Kullman finally met his Waterloo in the form of a US Government contract for a State Department office building to be constructed overseas. Due to cost-overrruns (sp?) and other unforeseen problems, this project for the State Department has strapped him to the point where he has now filed for bankruptcy protection. Hopefully, he can emerge from bankruptcy in a condition that is improved sufficiently for him to stay in business. Although NJ is not the birthplace of the diner concept, surely this state is the one where it has been developed to its most extreme, with more diners dotting the landscape here than in other states. Although there are several other manufacturers of these structures, Kullman is probably the most prestigious name in the field, and the demise of this company would be sad news for diner lovers. Let's hope that he can stay in business, as his buildings include some of the most famous diners--both in the US and in Germany, which has picked up on the diner-craze.

quote:Originally posted by bill voss I hope he filed before last Monday. If anyone has any information to the contrary, I would appreciate their correction of any mistakes that I may make, but--to the best of my knowledge, the changes to the bankruptcy laws were only in regard to individuals. As I understand it, the recent changes in the Federal Codes regarding bankruptcy did not have any negative impact on corporations. So, Kullman Industries should not have been affected by the new regulations. Individuals, on the other hand, will now be ineligible for bankruptcy protection in many situations. That will severely impact on some people in desperate straits, who will now have no escape from crippling debt. I will leave it to others to decide who the current administration in D.C. is really helping.

As always, I was just making a cheap joke..... I wish we even had a good place to get mashed potatoes, much less a cool building to eat them in.
