Sales Tax?

If you don't charge sales tax say at your cart do you have to pay sales tax to the state? Thanks.

Yep! You can either include the tax in your price, or tack it on in the end sale.. Either way, Big Brother wants his slice of the 'pie'..

Check your state. But you might be able to pay the sales tax when buying your goods & supplies at whole sale cost. thus its included and paid in your price.

When I ran my own business some time ago, I put up a sign that said that I do not charge sales tax, I COLLECT it.

As said above, if you sell a product that is taxable, you are responsible for collecting that tax and remitting it to the state.

I doubt any state would allow you to save money and them to loose money by paying your sales tax when buying goods only.

Holden, if you're not a not-profit and selling for a fundraiser, you better get your act together.

Dont believe it. We owned a small consignment shop. We were fored out of biz due to down town remodeling. For 2 years after they kept wanting money and we had to prove we had shut down each time.
In Ohio there is no tax on food thats caried out. they do have to charge you tax for soft drinks tho.
I knew a guy in the sales tax dept in Columbus. He explained that taxes had to be itemized by law. If they pushed it they would make a bar list the price of the drink both with and without tax!

Ow kont-rare. I had an alarm business in Chicago years ago and paid sales tax when I bought the equipment at my suppliers. Saved a lot of hassle. Perfectly legal. The State still gets their money, just not as much and they were O.K. with it.

Massachusetts has meals tax, different from a sales tax, for prepared meals. Normally you wouldn't pay sales tax on food from a grocery store, except for taxable items. I believe its 6% here. If you shop at restaurant depot, the food is untaxed, however, thats sales tax, and even if you did pay sales tax, you would still need to charge the MEALS tax! Thats TAXACHUSETTS for ya!!!

in ga. paying tax on your wholesale food items, is up to you( i would think most states are like this). you can submit your tax id number to just about any place you buuy stuff, like sam's, grocers, food suppliers, and they will sell you stuff tax exempt. but, wether you pay tax on the stuff you buy, or not, YOU STILL GOTTA PAY TAX ON YOUR REVENUES. PERIOD.
