Sam's in Garden City Beach SC

Talking about a owner who really thinks he has quality hotdogs, this is the place. Billboards abound on Highway 17 in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area encouraging you to visit Sam's, home of the world famous hotdogs. I paid them a visit and was extremely dissapointed with both the quality of their dogs and their highway robbery prices. But from the looks of the long line, many others got taken also. Their hotdogs were of poor quality. Th chili was tasteless and service was slow. Their preparation was sloppy and $2.50 for a regular hotdog and $3.50 for a foot long was outrageous. If you visit the area, ignore the billboards and have a Mcdonald's instead, which will be a better value for your money.

You can usually tell the qaulity of a place by its LACK of advertisment, inversly the bigger and more garish the advertisment and the more blatent the self endorsement the less likely you are to be satisfied

I too was disappointed in Sam's. I believe they have 3 locations along 17. I went to one in Myrtle Beach up towards N. Myrtle. The place was more bar than hot dog joint. I think of a hot dog place to be a family place but I wouldn't take my kids there. I went at about 8 pm and there was a few loud drunks there one of them was smoking a cigarette ( not sure if S.C. has laws against it)and one 50ish + bleach blond who looked like she had more miles on her than a 73 Kenworth was dancing in the middle of the floor with her shoes off. The place was dirty and the help were kinda scarey, rude and loud. The dog was lousey. Within 2 years I'm hoping to move down to the area and give Sam's a run for his money with my own hot dog place.

Xfireguy, go for it. Myrtle beach needs a good hotdog joint that serves quality food at reasonable prices. One that as you said, is not filthy and caters to families not drunks. I also agree with you about the attitude of the waitresses. Good Luck. Jim

I am sorry to hear of your disappointment. I was last at Sam's 5+ years ago. They had just installed video poker machines and had started to go down hill. Maybe there is more money in video poker than in good hot dogs Walt
