We're in Seaside Oregon for a 4th of July parade, then it's off to Seattle.

Your Corps is larger than the population of Seaside!
Looks like a neat place!

I've been to Seaside several times for a week at a time. It is a great little town with fresh seafood, razor clams right out of the river that runs along the main highway and a great CFS place. Nice weather, cute shops and a nice beach.

Another interesting tidbit about Seaside. For years, one of the local residents taught cooking classes at Seaside High School. I sure would have loved to have learned to cook from the instructor, James Beard!

We're in Salt Lake City today. So far, we have competed in 13 events, with 8 first place finishes, and 5 seconds. Next week we will face the competition from the east, and get a feel for where we stand this year.
Next up is Denver's Mile High Stadium on Saturday.

Met up with Poverty Pete over the weekend in Buffalo.  We made a late night run to Ted's for red hots

and some loganberry, before driving across the street and being the last customers of the day at Anderson's. For lunch this morning, it was beef on weck at Charlie the Butcher's

Terrific food and even better company!

I did get to see the Vanguard practice and was blown away at the level of commitment, endurance and precision by these young people.  Very enjoyable!

Buffetbuster and Poverty Pete,

Looks like you boys had some great meals in Buffalo. Beef on week is on my bucket list! I'm glad to hear the Vanguard is still doing great. Those are some impressive young adults!

Ed-
I have seen the videos before, but there is nothing quite like seeing them in person.  Since it was just a rehearsal, there weren't in uniform, which no doubt adds even more splendor.  Now that I have a taste of it, I promise to see them live next year!

After Fridays BBQ chase and rainy rehearsal watch, I was recovering at home last nite...not going to pay the $75 to get PPV of the Final Competition from Lucas Stadium Live on the 'net... but I was willing to stay up to watch the free 'Real-Time' net-cast of the Awards Ceremony at 10:30 last night. They listed the TOP 10 UNITs and their Scores and ran a brief clip of a few hi-lites of their performance, So I was able to get an idea of what each group did.
Quite a variety for sure.
Pete's "VANGUARD" did finish 4th with an overall rating of 96.075
I am assuming he is now rolling west in his truck, heading for California to wrap up the season.

If you would like to watch a re-run of the ceremony, here's the link. Sit back and relax this does take awhile. There is a several minute hesitation t the start before the real program begins, please be patient or FF a bit.

OK Stepping back a bit, Steve (PP) and I met in Indy Friday morning and made our first of several stops at the KINGS RIBS STAND ON 16THE ST. Photos below. Got a Rib Plate to sample in the truck, and several orders of rib tips (and one of pigs feet for PP) for take home. Then to the Mug n Bun for O.Rings and Root Beer,,,cross town to HANK BRISKET...out to a pair of now gone stands on the S E side,  back to the City BBQ in Greenwood for ribs then up to the city to chow down and watch and listen to the corps as they rehearsed in the pkg area outside Lucas Stadium.  It was like one of the mini-BBQ crawls we have done over the years. Thanks to KING RIBS and HANK the 'QUE was outstanding. and the music and action was fun to watch too.  Pete is in Nebraska now , heading west.  Hope he sees these soon
hear are a few fotos and then the award link is posted above this message.

Steve does his John Phillips Sousa Imitation using a Rib Bone for a Baton directing the Corps...

After this we parted company and I headed for home. We had a good day
with some good BBQ and good times.

Sorry- Forgot HANK'S BRISKET on MLK at 35th St.

Here is a link to the album we put on Facebook. Not sure if it will transfer, but I am trying to do this so PP can see it while on the road.

Sounds like a great time Al!  As good as Vanguard is, it is hard to imagine that there are three corps better.  So glad that you got together with Poverty Pete.

The King Ribs I usually visit is the one on the east side of the city that is only a drive-thru.  I think it was on Washington.  Doing a little research, it might be closed.  I have always been impressed by the 'que, even if the sauce is a little sweet.

Yeah, the one 'out east' is gone. There are three left. One on 15th, one on Keystone (Northeast) and one on 30th. Both PP and I think the Hot sauce which is really a medium spice...is about right for their ribs.

Nice shot of PP's truck, Al. But both links to the awards ceremony have been removed or are private. Are there new links?
