Santa's kitchen gadget list

Hi All - What's on your wish lists for kitchen gadgetry this holiday season? All I want is a Global Ceramic Whetstone for sharpening my knives. Sincerely, Yumbo (Back from a long hiatus ... do you realize how long it takes to get caught up on everything when you've not logged onto RF for 6 months???)

Yumbo....welcome back! I wanted a hand immersion blender and got it as my first present already (Hanukah is fun when it comes early!). I'm hoping for a nice pair of poultry shears (all metal, Messermeister or Wusthof) and a set of the accessory blades (julienne, french fry, extra-thin slice etc.) for my Cuisinart. And a new big bag of herbes de provence from France is nice too!

Hey there, Yumbo! I don't have anything on my list this year, but LAST year my wife gave me one of those vacuum food storage thingys, and I love it! It really keeps the food from getting freezer burn.

Sauce Master separates the juice from the seeds and skin with an easy-to-operate crank, so you don't have to worry about messy straining. I dislike peeling potatoes so I'd like a Euro Cuisine Electric Peeler

I would love a really nice Rachel Ray-type big knife - that big one she uses for everything, including crushing garlic. I also want the Magic Bullet. So I can chop up everything at once, even though it's already chopped, like on the infomercial.

Bed Bath and Beyond carries the Rachael Ray knife your're looking for. Wusthof Classic Santoku knife. Around $75. Actually Rachael's knife recently has a different handle but the blade is the same. I bought two, one for a gift and one for me. Truly amazing tool!!! BTW look for coupons in your paper or their website- you could save some $$$.

Thanks for the tip, and also the tip about the coupons. I'll have to remember to keep them next time I get one - I think they also come in the mail once in a while. I guess I just assumed that knife was really expensive so just never bothered - but lately I've seen her use it a lot and it makes chopping stuff look almost fun.

Wouldn't mind going for a Black & Decker Home Cafe system, especially now, since I have a $10 coupon and a $20 rebate form waiting to be used

It is fun to use! It just drops through tomatoes, onions etc because of the way it's weighted and it's unreal razor sharp edge! I carved a T'Day turkey breast like nobody's business with it. When i finish using i clean it carefully and put it back in it's box! I like it that much. BTW i bought these several months ago and with my coupon i think i paid around $62 each.

More Globals and a Superbenriner. And more of those brightly colored plastic strainers that cost under 2 bucks each at the Asian market.

Santa baby, Lemmee sit on your lap a moment and tell you my Christmas kitchen wish list.....Santa sugah britches, will you bring me a dishwasher that will wash all my damn gadgets thoroughly and not melt or break them. Yeah, I know Santa, most of those handy dandy things should be washed by hand, but you handsome, bounteous man you, don't you just hate the thought of these smooth hands of mine becoming dishpan hands? Now would rough, dry hands feel pleasant on that bowlful of jelly of yours? Hmmmmmmmmmmm? If you could see your way clear to making it a hardworking water miser and china wash equipped too, I bet you'll find some mighty tempting cookies waiting for you, sugar plum. Signed with a sigh, Redtressed

Or maybe I'll wait fo the next mail coupon. But I have to have it. And I like that it comes in a box - it will be easier to store that way (now that I think of it, I think that was the other reason I never bothered to get one). Thanks again for the tip!

Welcome back, Yumbo! I was thinking about asking Santa for one of those panini presses, I believe the one I saw was a Braun - does anyone have any experience with these? Or are they just another useless cabinet space taker-upper? I usually use my cast iron skillets to make cubans, etc, but I want ridges. Hey, anyone remember that "RRRRRUFFLES HAVE RRRRRIDGES"? Sorry. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm a cheap bastard with a small kitchen, so when I'm in a panini kinda mood I use my belgian waffle iron, with OK results. What you get doesn't look like it came from a panini press, but it's close. The key is in the hinge. I think panini presses have double hinges that accomodate thicker sandwiches. When you use a waffle iron (with its single hinge) you get something that is slightly squashed at one end.

Number 1: a dishwasher!! I was so wowed by the spa and the gazebo when I bought this place I didn't notice there was no dishwasher..I could also use a digital kitchen scale, a coupla ladles, a coupla cookie scoops, and I'd like to try one of those Express 101 thingies to see if they are any good.

I am interested in the magic bullet. Does anyone here have one? I'm wondering if they are worth the cost.

If the magick bullet is a chopper---do yourself a favor and take the money you spend on gadgets--go to a local culinary school and take some classes--especially one on how to use a knife!!!they really do teach that you know. nothing personal and i dont want to insult anyone---but most folks really have no idea what to dom with the fancy knives the spend alot of money on. A little training in the fine arts of chopping and dicing and slicing will make your life SO much eqasier,. Have you ever seen a chef use a food chopper to chop an onion??? especially when cooking for a small family--i can chop and dice and slice through all the prep work for a meal in about the time it takes to CLEAN the chopper! Beleive me--if you really like to cook---forget the gadgets---get the training!!!! it will add so much to your enjoyment of the process that you will never regret it!!!i gare-run-tee!
