Saratoga Trip 8/13/07 and Trip report from 2006

Hello all ,

On Monday the 14th of August Coney Island Lou joined our group of Horse racing fans from the local K of C to visit the Saratoga Racetrack and enjoy a day of gambling , and as I found out some decent eating .

The day was beuatiful with a slighly overcast sky , the temperature topping off at about 80 in the sun .

Great racing and a few longshots made winners of many in our group of 42 . A trifecta was hit and a few daily doubles , so the trip back was jovial to say the least.

What Coney Island Lou and I found was a good Nathans Hot Dog eatery below the grandstands . Reminded me of the original taste found on Surf Ave in Brooklyn . Many of these fast food Nathans in malls and Rest stops just do not cut it , but I thought this one was a find , and the dogs were great .
Perhaps I enjoyed them a little more than Lou , he thought they were ok , but I have experienced many a under performing Nathans dog recently around the Northeast . I was presently surprised . I decided to stay with two plain and they were tasty .

I will certainly look to stop by the eatery next time I'm at Saratoga for the races . *** 1/2 out of 4 stars.

My take on it was that the dog was GREAT..but the fries were oh so disappointing - instead of the classic Nathan's fresh hand cut fries, it was obvious these were just frozen crinkle cuts just like you would find at the local Shop Rite..if not worse!

so the dog was ****, but the fries degrade the overall experience to ***

On Friday, I am off to Saratoga. I will check out the Nathan's but my family insists that we stop at Hot Dog Charlie's in Cohoes on the way home.

Hey Walt ,
Will you be joining us for the Hot Dog Tour ?
It is a long day of racing , two dogs during the day should not spoil your enjoyment in Cohoes after the races.
Let us know how the place is when you get back .

Walt...better than Hot Dog Charlie's is Gus's Hot Dogs in Watervliet....on 25th St....both are close to my house..enjoy and have fun at the track tmrw...

Last Year we did a taste test between Gus's and Charlie's. My family selected Charlie's as the best.

The Monroe NY Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring our 2nd Annual Bus Trip to Saratoga Race Track on Mon. Aug . 13th , 2007
Tickets are $40 per person and includes cont. breakfast , reserved seat admission , refreshments and R/T Deluxe Motorcoach .
