Just returned from Savannah, GA today. Sorry that I don't have any photos to share. I have heard a lot of negative reviews of the Lady and Sons restaurant, but just have to say that it was one of the best meals I had in Savannah. I ordered off the regular menu and not the buffet and it was delicious. My sister was with me and she had the shrimp and grits, I had the chicken pot pie. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes, which were to die for. For dessert we had banana pudding and chocolate butter cake. The iced tea was great too! One of the things that impressed me most about this restaurant was how orderly it was. The lines outside can get quite crazy, but they handle the crowds beautifully. It is a very nice and quiet restaurant they don't accept reservations for less than ten people, but we were able to get a reservation through our tour guide. I had really thought about not going here, but I am so glad that we did. We will definitely go back when we visit Savannah in the future. We ate at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House the next night and the seafood there was very fresh and had a very light breading. They also had great corn muffins with honey butter. We stayed at the Hamilton Turner Inn and had wonderful breakfasts each morning. One morning we had Peach French Toast, another morning it was vegetable omelets with herbed cheese grits, and pecan pancakes on the last day.

My wife talked me into eating at Lady and Sons a few years ago. In spite of the wait, I really enjoyed my lunch, which included the best fried potatoes ever. They’re called Jelly-Role – named after the woman who created the recipe.

I thoroughly enjoyed the stellar buffet at Lady and Son when I visited a little over two years ago- I went on a Sunday Afternoon and most of the patrons were locals returning from church.

A few months back, someone on the forum (I don't remember who) tried to trash the place- apparently he had an axe to grind because he owned a restaurant in Savannah that was apparently going under and I guess was upset at Lady and Son's success

Well, you ordered off the main menu and that may have been why you enjoyed your meal so much. The buffet is simply not worth waiting in line for IMHO. The best part of our meal was the hoe cakes that we got when we sat down.

They have a very loyal following and people come out of the woodwork to defend the place. To wait on line for this type of mundane Sunday "get together food" ...I just never thought the wait was worth it.

The best restaurant in town use to be Elizabeth's on 37th. I have no idea how it is today. When we were there, even after she sold it to two of her waiters, it was still terrific.

Maybe somebody can give us an update on the dining scene in Savannah?
