Save Jericho! Tue, 05/22/07 12:37 PM (permalink)
CBS has decided to cancel the show Jericho. In the final episode 1 of the main characters told the invading army Nuts!

The show was premised on nuclear bombs having wiped out many American cities. The town of Jericho, Ks. was spared but the trials and tribulations had just started.

So a bunch of people have gotten together to send CBS over 2 tons of peanuts so far. Nuts to you CBS!

I don't believe I've ever heard of that show.

The show was so so, at least IMO. I did see the "season ending" (now just plain ending)show. I'd like to see them do a 2hr "special" to end the series rather than just leave us hanging. I stopped watching "Lost", and never got into "24" which I understand is a good show. I like NCIS, Ugly Betty, and House, and all of them are doing ok in the ratings.

I enjoyed it and I'm not sure there isn't one episode to go--at least they showed a preview for another episode on the one you are referring to. But as for convincing them to "uncancel" it, I see no chance. I'm a sucker for SciFi stuff and enjoyed both Invasion and Surface last season, and complained loudly to the networks when they were cancelled (I'm still praying for the SciFi Channel to pick them up like they did Battlestar Gallactica). Might as well have not wasted my time. But I think it's clear this sort of show has almost no chance to last longer than a season and it's too annoying for me to even allow myself to get hooked.

PS: tmiles, Lost almost bored me enough to stop watching last season, but this season I find it much improved; maybe the best ever. They are finally letting us find out just enough to stay interested about what's going on while still keeping "the big secret" whatever it is.

Lost, they all dies and are in Hell. Or so they want us to think, maybe. I like the show and Heroes, they are my favorites this year. I'll miss Jericho but not a lot.

^^^Actually, my "favorite" new show of the season did get renewed: Friday Night Lights. And I'm not even a sports fan.

Never watched "Heroes". The premise seemed too contrived for me--with political overtones. Maybe I made a mistake, but there's only so much time in a day.

Re Lost: The producers and others associated with the show have specifically said they are NOT in purgatory. Locke's father said they were in Hell--so they almost certainly can't actually be. I greatly enjoyed how they made such a thing of the "Dharma Project" for 3 seasons and then revealed it as just a bunch of 60s Jonestown type loosers who ended up in a pit. The big secret of the island, if it ever gets revealed, may be very prosaic.

              Hello All,
Never watched Jericho because I work nights, but I know the pain of getting
into a show and it getting yanked off before there is an ending.
I understand there is a petition to get the show renewed.
My dear wife records "Lost," "House," and the "Sopranos" for me.
              I love "House".
"Lost" has gotten a little too boring and stretched out. Reminds me of
"Myst". I want it to end or find something new.
              Take Care,
              Fieldthistle

I'm surprised Jericho got as far as it did - even before this season began,
lots of people were predicting it would be one of the first new series to
get the axe & not make it past September/October...

I've been thinking about this..... They could make a 90 min "special" out of what is already filmed. Hire 2 of the players who would work for scale and have them meet in an airport bar 5 years into the future. Using already filmed scenes as flashbacks they could let us know how things worked out very cheaply. Give the project to a young asst producer with a low budget and let him make a name for himself. If they do it cheaply enough, it would even work for a straight to video deal, but I would vote to show it next fall in place of a cxld show.

You did it! Holy frak, you did it!
Not since Family Guy's miraculous resurrection has a fandom actually been able to bring back a show back from the dead...until now. Nina Tassler, the president of CBS, just posted on the official message boards that Jericho is coming back! Here's what you need to know
CBS has ordered seven new episodes • There could be more, but only if the ratings improve • The DVD is out Sept. 25 • The creators will be "continuing the story of -->-->Jericho-->--> in the digital world until the new episodes return." • -->-->-->-->Nina likes you! "On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of Jericho in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference."

I couldn't be more thrilled, and I do believe this is thawing out my cold, cynical reporters' heart. I never thought I'd see the day!
                    Now Dawn Ostroff? Your move...

Yup, turns out ot be true:

CBS makes nuts into butter, resurrects "Jericho" for a midseason run.

What can we say? Skeet Ulrich makes people nutty.

Among the many things that happened while the Blog of Lowered Expectations was down for the count -- I'd explain, but it's really just pathetic and boring -- it seems "Jericho" fans rallied to bring the series back from the dead.

"Jericho's" limited renewal also has to be helped by the fact that the ratings weren't all that terrible until "American Idol" came on the scene. Before the talent show obliterated everything in its path, the show was averaging about 10.7 million viewers.

But a long hiatus didn't do it any favors either, and between the break and Fox's singing contest, it bled away a third of its audience.

How did the "Jericho" faithful get their show back on the air? By inundating CBS with nuts by the ton, in an ode to the finale's closing line.

This worked on two fronts. One, it gave CBS the ability to measure just how nuts it was to cancel this series. Two, it probably made an ally of anyone in the building that had a nut allergy. Either way, CBS entertainment head Nina Tassler decided that she needed to stop the madness once and for all. She posted this open letter on the CBS press website.

                      "To the Fans of Jericho:

                      Wow!

Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard.

As a result, CBS has ordered seven episodes of "Jericho" for mid-season next year. In success, there is the potential for more. But, for there to be more "Jericho," we will need more viewers.

A loyal and passionate community has clearly formed around the show. But that community needs to grow. It needs to grow on the CBS Television Network, as well as on the many digital platforms where we make the show available.

We will count on you to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.

At this time, I cannot tell you the specific date or time period that "Jericho" will return to our schedule. However, in the interim, we are working on several initiatives to help introduce the show to new audiences. This includes re-broadcasting "Jericho" on CBS this summer, streaming episodes and clips from these episodes across the CBS Audience Network (online), releasing the first season DVD on September 25 and continuing the story of Jericho in the digital world until the new episodes return. We will let you know specifics when we have them so you can pass them on.

On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of "Jericho" in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference.

                      Sincerely,

                      Nina Tassler

                      President, CBS Entertainment

P.S. Please stop sending us nuts : )"

                      There you have it.

So, TV viewers, let this be a lesson to you. Any TV series that had a decent-sized audience during its run can be brought back from the dead with the help of a well-organized fan base and a campaign that's clever and utterly annoying at the same time.

Congratulations, nutty "Jericho" viewers. You are an inspiration to all of us.
