Scotsdale/Flagstaff restaurants suggestions Fri, 07/30/04 2:02 PM (permalink)
Will be vacationing with our 2 teenage kids in Scottsdale next week. Planning on driving up to the Canyon and staying a night in Flagstaff. Looking for informal local places inexpensive to moderately priced thats family friendly. Prefer ethnic and local flavors. Most of our time will be in the Scotsdale area. Last time we were in Phoenix one of the places we ate at was a Mexican restaurant called Rosa's. We like it alot and would like to find more places like it. Would appreciate any suggestions.

We hit Flagstaff coming and going on a trip east last Oct., and I was left a bit disappointed. They seen enthralled with theme based fast food, and we never found a way to avoid listening to the trains all night. Our best dining experience was a small place on the east end of '66 called Miz Zips, (2924 E. Rt. 66) which is a simple old American diner type. It's been around awhile. The front is a gathering area for locals, while the rear dining room is nicely decorated with, what else, Route 66 memoribilia. Although I didn't try any, they made mention in their menu of grinding their own beef and cutting their own steaks daily, and I took that as an indicator of attention that is all too rare today! jm
