Screen for Fryer

Hi.  I haven't posted here in awhile.  I'm always looking for ways to improve oil quality, and my Sysco guy told me about something called DF Boss (www.deepfryerscreens.com).  Anybody use one, and what do you think of it?  I'm not shilling for them, I'm just looking for independent reviews.

$100 plus shipping is a little pricey, but if it does save time and help with food quality I suppose it is worth it.

Keeping things from dropping between the burner tubes.. may be a good benefit. Seems like a $7 hand held screen might do a better job and be much more convenient for the rest though. I dont get the beneifit where they show it doing a "large order". Much more fries would have just fit in the basket instead. How about trying to make a funnel cake with it though? That might be a better marketing angle for it.

Well, I agree that the "large order" thing isn't a real benefit.  I think they were coming up with various benefits to their product, and threw that one in.  They would do better to concentrate on the real benefit of having this thing.  I'm not sure where you'd get a $7 screen to do the same thing, though.  I assume their product is stainless steel.  Plus, the screen would have to fit perfectly into the fryer.  Also, the handles have a plastic coat so you can pick it up,  With a cheap screen you'd probably have trouble touching it due to heat.  If I could do it for $7 I would, but I have to give credit where it is due.  $100 is high, but I think it would take more than $7 to recreate what they have. (Still haven't bought it yet).

Those screens are for supporting the baskets.  It sits on top of the burners inside the oil.  The screen I posted about is similar but has a MUCH smaller mesh size and prevents much smaller particles from passing through.  It's really not the same thing at all.

Well ....wether it also supports the baskets it still traps crumbs and debris wether its fine mesh or not,, right? soooooooooooooo it's similar but not the same? sides, the damn handles would be in the way

I wouldn't consider anything with 1/4" mesh holes to be much good for catching anything other than a french fry, so it doesn't perform the same function that this product looks like it might.  I was worried about the handles, too, but I think they are low enough.  Without handles like the other screens, it is impossible to lift the debris out.  Thanks!
