Se habla espanol?

Did I do that correctly? Just wondering if anyone here speaks Spanish very well? I learned some Spanish when I was in Mexico, and I studied it in college, but I can only understand a few words and phrases anymore.

I only know one "phrase" and it isn't very nice. Oh, I can count to 10 but then so can my eight year old. The only time I was required to take Spanish was in 7th grade and that was some time ago. Oops, I do know something "besos". Guess that's not considered "speaking" though.

My Spanish-speaking abilities are mainly limited to the few phrases most important to me when nursing:
No empujar! - Don’t push! (Very important one!)
    Respiracion grande - big breath
    tos grande - cough big
tiene dolor? - are you having pain?
    soy enfermera - I am a nurse
el doctor esta viniendo - the doctor is coming
como si siente el pecho? - how does your chest feel?
Usted hambriento? - are you hungry?
Usted sediento - are you thirsty?
Usted desea una pildura del dolor? Do you want a pain pill?
Tiene dolor de pecho? - are you having chest pain?
    Pis aqui - pee here

    - Lone Star,

You might do a tad better with the following adjustments:

    No empuje! [em-POO-heh] - Don’t push!
ya viena el doctor - the doctor is coming (the doctor is on his way)
como se siente del pecho? - how does your chest feel?
tiene hambre? - are you hungry?
tiene sed? - are you thirsty?
quiere una pildora para el dolor? - Do you want a pain pill? (do you want a pill for your pain?)

    - EdSails,

"tastada camarones"? Might you mean "tostada de camarones"?

    - All y'all,

You seem to be stuck in the rut of foods from the taqueria menu - y hay mucho mas para disfrutar! Por ejemplo:

    alambre
    atole
    avena
    bacalao
    borrego
    cabrito
    cajeta
    cangrejo/jaiba
    capirotada
    cecina
    ceviche
    costilla
    champurrado
    chapulin
    chicharron
    ensalada
    escabeche
    flan
    frijoles borrachos
    frijoles de olla
    galleta
    huachinango
    huitlacoche
    jitomate/tomate/tomatillo
    longaniza
    manchamanteles
    menudo
    natillas
    ostion
    pambazo
    pavo/guajolote
    pescado
    pok chuc
    pozole
    pulque
    queso fundido
    rompope
    salchicha
    sopa de arroz
    sopas de: fideo, albondiga, etc.
    sotol
    tarta
    tinga
    torta
    tortas de: coliflor, huazontle, etc.
    trucha
    venado
    xolostle
    zapote

(This just an incomplete attempt at a culinary alphabet - try Googling these for a new window onto the foods from south of the border - y para practicar mas su espanol!)

    Buen provecho,

Maybe I should read more carefully, but it seems I never saw it spelled correctly:

    "Se habla español"

Don't forget the mark above the "n." Damned if I can remember what that mark is called, but the spelling is wrong without it. With a Mac, it's easy to add other languages to the keyboard.

    Richard,
Sorry-----quick typo with fast reply button=misspelling tostada! And please add to your list two of my favorites----birria de chivo and tamal de verduras.

    Michael,
How about some words on your dining on your recent trip? Hope you had a good time!

Thank you Richard, whatever it takes. A lot can be said with frantic gestures at times.

    I love:
    Ceviche

    ensalada of all kinds
    flan
    borracho beans
    pozole
    queso fundido
sopa and tortas of all kinds

    Pass on
Cabrito - had it several times in the panhandle, never did like it.
    Menudo

Is a sandwich sometimes called a torta too?

Oops, a wee bit off-topic, but Ed Sails met me, my partner, and some friends of ours in Disneyland in December, and then took us to the most amazingly delicious Southern Roadfood restaurant nearby, in Orange. I had SUCH a taste for fried chicken, and it was awesome, but Ed ordered ribs, which made my mouth water, so he gave me a rib. CHOMP!

    Suffice it to say:

    Ed Sails Knows Roadfood!

I will put a Disneyland post in "Where to eat" tomorrow, while I'm waiting for the phone company. That should give me all the time I need to write.

Tengo un poquito de espanol; yo hablo en la manera de un nino de dos o tres anos. Mi vocabulario es <<o.k.>>, pero no practico mucho.
