Ain't it something---I figured this lad was in Stamford and therefore a neighbor of mine and I would help him out. But low and behold I find he is really from some little town in Tenn. and is probably up here carpetbaggin'. Now what do you make of that????? The only good fish joints I can recommend him to will take him miles out of his way, so I am leaving him up to folks who know where Whalebone NC is. A great name.

By all means please stop in Chincoteague, Virginia if you will be travelling down 13. We just returned from there last night and ate at two great places - Bill's Seafood on Main street in "downtown" Chincoteague, and Ray's Shanty in Wattsville. You don't have to travel very far after you turn left at the stoplight at Route 175 to get to Ray's. They're on the left and it looks like a dark green house. They're open Thursday through Sunday and I actually highly recommend this place. I had softshells that were fabulous. Everyone was eating some type of seafood and everybody looked super happy. Most people I've spoken to seem to blow right past Ray's on 175 on the way to Chincoteague. They don't really know it's there or they think it's something else.

Thanks First of all, welcome and congrats on post #1 (most folks around here will attest to that one being the toughest). I don't have any suggestions for you, as far as places to eat, but you might consider either editing this title or posting again with more specific information in your thread title. Too many folks would simply not even read a threat entitled "Seafood", as it is just too generic. You might try "Seafood stops between Stamord, CT and Whalebone, NC" and see if that gets any hits. Regards, Steve

If you are talking about Whalebone Junction that is just what the name implies a Junction. It is right over the causeway heading to Nags Head. The best place I know for good Seafood or Roadfood for that matter is Darellys, spelled it wrong. In Manteo.Good seafood and meat and three.

It has been many years, but there used to be several very good places on Rt1 in Virginia. Some had water views of the Potomac.
