Wow the last time was about 25 years ago. Its amazing how everything looks the same.

Yup, the Seaside Heights boardwalk has'nt changed much, and that's a GOOD thing!! (I like the tackiness)

Some things just never change...
Here I am , Circa 1976, with high school boyfriend Michael Raab.
SEASIDE HEIGHTS boardwalk, 1976

The only thing that's changed since this pic is a few more lines on my face. (and a steady rotation of boyfriends!)

Here's the same spot, 2008, (off season, of course)

    Hey Ellen,
Wonderful report as usual. I'll have to try Pudge's and I've been meaning to get to Joe-Joes. I passed by maybe a month ago but it was too early and it wasn't open yet so I went to OB-CO donuts in Toms River. I've never had sausage and peppers from the Midway Steakhouse, but their chesesteaks are my favorite and the lemonade is great. I've always wondered why the name? Is it because it's in the middle of the boardwalk between the beach and the buildings? or because it's somewhat in the middle of the boardwalk end to end or because Seaside is sort of a carnival midway? I ate at Maruca's in Brick once, I don't understand the hype, it wasn't the best pizza, but maybe it's because it's a franchised location.

Thanks, Dave! I agree with you, as I don't love Maruca's, either...
The cheese and sauce tastes pretty good, (but just pretty good).
But I really DON'T like their CRUST! It's just not my style... their crust is a firm, cardboard type crust that breaks apart as you are eating it. I prefer a more softer, doughy crust, although hardly anybody on this website seems to like it "my way"....
(to each his own, of course!)

It's very possible........if it's the same Micheal Raab , he was living in Indianapolis for awhile, and may still be...

Cool trip report. I actually fly outta Lakewood airport and a good friend lives literally across the street from that hot dog place on 37 so i'm in that area usually a couple of times a week. Here are some pics of mine to give u an idea of how desolate Seaside is right after Christmas.

And another fine review from Jersey Ellen!

I am enjoying reading and being educated by the Jersey shore reviews. I lived 60-100 miles from Seaside Heights, and never came near to it, or any of the other NJ boardwalk areas.

Funny! I was there in the 80s (81-86) just a few miles up the road in Bay Head! Man, do those pics bring back memories!

I love aerial views! Thanks for sharing, bob1231...Yeah, that looks pretty desolate... can't even make out anybody on the beach even walking a dog!

Here is another desolate one for you...

WILDWOOD, NJ boardwalk , MONDAY, 3-31-08

The next day after Seaside Heights, I took a drive down to Wildwood.
The only thing I noticed open was the "Original Fudge Kitchen".
(although I did'nt walk the whole boardwalk)
I realize it was a Monday, so maybe a handful of stores had been open over the weekend.

But this desolate pic made Seaside look like a tropical paradise!!

Special HI goes out to Miami Don, and Bluemaxx !!!!!

Ellen, Its been a lot of years but I do miss Wildwood.

For $25 we stayed at the Landmark or the Bolero. Hot dogs for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Hot Spot. If you could afford it you ate at Schellangers or Mama Leoni's.

Also Frank Mack from Macks Pizza is from my hometown of Pittston. His daughter was one of my teachers in high school.

                        Thanks, Ellen,

For all your wonderful reports and memories.

Having grown up near Flemington, NJ (halfway between NYC & Philly, Wildwood and Seaside Heights was the place to go, in the summer). Mom still lives in Howell, near Freehold. She is a die-hard Mets fan, and when it is off-season, she is always down to AC!

I really miss those wonderful pizza's........hard to explain......simple...good sauce and cheeze.

I cannot wait for my next trip back to NJ. I am due! CA dreamin' is great, but it is even better, "to get back home, with family, good friends, and even better friends. I have to get up to Bergen Co. as that is where most of my cousins are.

Thanks for another great trip report.

I can almost taste the wonderful roadfood.
