Seattle Roadfood find ?

While taking a roadtrip from the Bay Area to Seattle (and sampling the excellent food at Mo's and Camp 18 ) we discovered some fine bbq in Seattle. Jones BBQ on Rainier has excellent chicken and ribs. It has apparently won several local awards as best BBQ. I had the spicy sauce and it was the kind that was not too hot but lingered on your lips for 20 minutes or so after eating. We brought dinner home to our hosts and they loved it. They then went out to Ezells (several locations) and brought back wonderful fried chicken, garlic mashies, and cole slaw. Anyone else try either of these joints ?

Ezell's, yes, from time to time. Only at the original place.

Jone's, no, not yet. Maybe today.

In Seattle, there isn't much competition in the 'Q awards area -- and I will say Jone's is about the best I've had out here. I had the pork ribs and they were enormous. They used the approach where they used the whole rib with the cartilage and fatty stuff on the top (I never eat that stuff and am just as happy not to get it -- but hey it works for them.) I think it would cook more even without it ...

Anyhow, the ribs were very flavorful, the sauce was very very good ... (I've eaten Q in about 15 different states this year and the sauce ranked among the best) ... the meat was tender -- but it didn't want to part with the bone as easily as it should.

Great suggestion.

Other Q in Seattle: Peco's Pit for great beef Q sandwiches ... The Steel Pig for good ribs with sweet/sour, almost Asian flavor ... R&L on Yesler for good for out here Q ... Dixie BBQ in Bellevue for popular but middle-of-the-road (I think he calls his tri-tip brisket). All in all Jone's is best for pork. Peco's for beef.

At Jones I agree go for the pork ribs and the chicken -- very good. The brisket and sausage were heartbreakingly disappointing in my opinion. Sides are not good there either. Jones = pork and chicken only.

New Q in Seattle?

At least new to me. The Frontier Room in Belltown on First. The new best ribs I've had out here.

lets not forget about willies taste of soul,before he opened his own place he was the cook at jones.great ribs and chicken, with hot peach cobler to close it out.there is also a new place,new to me,anyway just off the first ave bridge heading north on 1st ave.right side of the road,very good ribs,and baked beans all made in house
