The question. Of all the sensual pleasures, which would you be willing to forego to sustain your life? Hypothetically, you are given the choice of losing one of your senses or losing your life. Your choice is? Since this site is dedicated to food I would guess that taste and smell would be important to you. Do you need to see your food? Do you need to feel your food? Do you need to hear your food? Do you need to hear "good" music while enjoying your food? Do you need to feel/hear (?) the crunch of whatever it is that crunches? Do you even want to think about this at all? Get philosophical on me. That's what I'm lookin' for. I don't know why. Just something that crossed my mind. Can you perceive being blind? Can you perceive being deaf? Are you truely sensible? Are you true to your sensibilities? Just wonderin'. Gut "feelings" also appreciated.

I do not want to lose any of my senses. I guess sense I do not hear all that well, Perhaps my hearing would be the one but I do not even want to lose what I have. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I often wondered, if I went deaf, would that mean I would no longer hear the voices in my head? Seriously though, I've thought maybe losing my sight would be the easiest to deal with, as they say the other senses become so much more sensitive. And anyway, I've seen it all (ba dum dum). But like Sundancer, I would hate to lose any of my senses. My sense of humor, especially.

I have absolutely no use for my keen sense of direction. It's a deal! Since we're being hypothedical, could we trade up ? Life sure would be dull and lacking if food had no crunch in the munch . Pwingsx, you still hear them but you can pretend you don't all the time .

At least I needn't worry about losing my common sense. Never had any to start with. Poor gator, is this what you had in mind when you said to go philosophical? I'm betting not.

To All, I have lost a good part of my hearing already and wear hearing aids in both ears. If I could go back and change my life, that is the one thing I would do differently. Music especially, does not sound the same as it used to. Songs you remember as sounding a certain way now sound totally different. It's very hard to explain this to people with good hearing. Don't be an idiot, take care of your hearing. Mike

No poor Gator reaction here. This is pretty much what I expected. I do appreciate the responses. What I hoped to do here and in many of my other posts, was to generate actual thought. Not knee jerk reaction to topic du jour, but actual thought. Pull a skull cap down over your eyes and feel your walls. Do the first and the second will commence. You will then have a new perspective on how familiar things are/feel. A second opinion perhaps? What I hoped to convey was a genuine wish, that people put ponder in their thought process. Perhaps, a dream?
