Dobie's is out! Looking for suggestions.
I guess you'll just have to drift away to someplace else...
CNW

May is completely out for all travel so not only am I having to cancel out on this but I also won't be able to make it to Smoke (Pie) Day.
Sorry to hear it...hopefully you can make a trip later in the year.

It's a smaller place and they couldn't seat all of us until 8 pm. It's one of those charming little places that are rapidly disappearing. In fact I can only think of one place in Milwaukee that starts you out with a gratis lazy susan. When you and Frank come up this summer, we'll plan on going there.

Do you have any of the Contingent's cell numbers? If your plan changes,  maybe you can join us somewhere earlier. On Saturday the drive north from Milwaukee to Sheboygan or Port is a breeze. You  cannot find sandwiches in Port or even Milwaukee like those in Sheboygan but Port is a real nice town to visit.

Ooh, that sounds good 'feff.  Time?  Not too early as we might head north past Port before we head back south to Dobie's.

BR - Whatever works for you & Mrs. Roadhouse. I doubt Dobie's takes reservations on Fish Fry Friday. We could get there early to get on wait list in the queue if needed.

Would anyone else like to join us tonight?

Just up 8th St. from Schwarz's is Il Ritrovo, if anyone's interested in an Italian market and maybe some Italian desserts.  I realize there are plenty of Italian specialty stores in the Great Milwago Sprawl but it caught my eye.

And for me pizza is a dessert.

Brad,

I'm amazed at how close Schwai's is to Cedar Valley Cheese (W3115 Jay Rd, Belgium, WI 53004). We've been so close so many times. We'll probably check out the Italian market.

Perhaps an opportunity for a little snack?  8 pieces split amongst us?  It's right along the way:

And if you can't trust Matt Cheavers just who can you trust?

We could even dine ala trunk but I really don't want to see Buddy waving his legs in the air.

Il Ritrovo would make a nice stop after City Bakery and before Gosse's or Old Wisconsin. Now I wasn't planning on passing out any handouts as the Google link and folks GPS seems like it would be a waste of paper. If you disagree, tell me today.

Nope, that should be fine.  I've already made my own sheet of directions and can bring extras if anyone needs.

I like the idea of stopping at Il Ritrovo, already added it my GPS route for tomorrow.

Speaking of which, yeah MFL I don't need handouts.  I've got my GPS and I'll print out the directions myself (in case the GPS goes caputsies, which happened to me once lol).  Thanks for doing the work of putting together that Google link, I'm sure that will help a lot.

Can't wait for tomorrow.  I even bought a mid-size cooler just for the occasion   All I previously had was my tiny lunch box one or humungo camping one.  Planning on bringing home lots of goodies.

Is the list in post #38 the official itinerary, then?  Or have there been changes made since then (besides Dobies, of course...and adding this Il Ritrovo place)?

Excellent idea. I propose
Schwai's 11:30 Fredonia http://schwaismeatandsausage.com/
Cedar Valley Cheese Noon Random Lake http://cedarvalleycheesestore.com/
Midway Eats 12:30 Random Lake https://www.facebook.com/pages/Midway-Restaurant/192066737502585
City Bakery  1:15 Sheboygan http://www.sheboygancitybakery.com/
Old Wisconsin 1:30 Sausage Outlet Sheboygan http://www.oldwisconsin.com/
Gosse's 2 pm Sheboygan http://www.gossesrestaurant.com/
Cruiser's  2:45 Sheboygan http://www.cruisersfrozencustard.com/  Skipable if we have dessert at Gosse's.
Ewing Brothers 3:30 Port Washington http://ewigsmokedfish.com/ Excellent, but really not comparable to the two we visited in Chicago. It would be a good time killer.
Dobie's 5 pm Milwaukee TBD

MFL,

It will take at least an hour to get in and out of Midway Restaurant. We may need to adjust our times.

Re:The start time; I'm perfectly happy starting earlier, although it's probably too late to communicate that to everyone at this point.  Also, this ain't my tour, I'm just along for the ride.  Sorry I didn't see this until almost midnight, but we've been on the road all day.

Also, a tip for everyone heading up to Sheboygan, there's some serious construction just north of White Fish Bay, reducing the interstate to one lane heading north.  It runs for a few miles, adding at least 15 minutes to the trip.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday morning (at whatever time) at Schwai's

There were doubters, but we managed to hit almost every one of the stops on the original list.  Those we missed were replaced by other, suitable substitutes.  Once we come out of our food comas the pictures and words should begin to arrive.

Very briefly, I'll just say it was a spectacular spring day in the upper Midwest.  We sampled some of the best old time Burgers and Brats to be had in the Sheboygan metro area.  Mixed in between the actual eating stops were a fine selection of shopping opportunities where we picked up a cooler full of southeast Wisconsin specialties to bring home for later use.

We wrapped up the day with some "lighter fare' in the form of a Vietnamese feast in Milwaukee.

More details from me and others once we've recovered.

Buddy

P.S. I know this might be blasphemy, but the Friday night dinner we had at Dobie's (specifically the main courses, rather than the sides)  may have been better than what we enjoyed last month at the Pine Club in Dayton.  Spectacular Steaks done to picture perfect medium rare, and an abundant plate of beautifully sauteed Sea Scallops made Mrs. Roadhouse and I very happy.  I'm pretty certain the JRPfeff/Pie Diva chapter were equally satisfied.

Buddy,
It's not blasphemy that the steaks were better than at the Pine Club.  Ohio is on the "border" of the Midwest..........the farther central and west you go, the better the meat is.  My favorite so far is Archie's Waeside in LeMars, Iowa.
Glad you all had a good time.  Looking forward to pictures!

I can still taste that 12 year bourbon at New Port Shores as the tour was winding down. I'm happy we had such great weather. My high point was the great company I shared; Beth, Bobbi, Brad, Christin, Chuck, Eric, Greg, Jeff, Jim, Lucy, Mark, Martin, Nina, Pam, Pete, Susan, and especially the staff at Gosse's. Those that ducked out the door early missed the host's gift of a pocket/keychain flashlight. I, of course, realized 20 miles from home that I had forgotten my camera. If I turned around, Buddy would beat me to our first location, which never should happen, so thanks to those whose pictures I "borrowed". It's 8:58 am Sunday and I'm hungry. Good thing I got a banh mi to go and some leftover poppyseed torte!

What he said.  It was a great day and every stop had something to offer.  At 5:30 this morning Mrs. Chicken and I shared a piece of Cedar Valley string cheese and we're having grilled Schwai's summer sausage tonight.

CTD, you missed the keychains by mere minutes.  It was as if they were waiting for you to leave before handing them out.

My route home took me through Mayville and I drove past the Audubon Inn and its related restaurants NOLA North Grill and NOLA North Bar and Cafe.  Are you listening, X1?
