Shelton Dog House - R.I.P.

It is my unhappy duty to report the passing of the Shelton Dog House of Shelton, CT. I generally manage to get there a few times a year for my usual pair of Long Sheltons, but today I found it closed for renovations. Signs promise a reopening as something Portuguese.

Sigh.

Oh no ! My wife's favorite dogs in the world ! We stopped there after cutting down a Christmas tree one year and she thought they were "the bees knees" !

Sorry to hear that. While Connecticut, like N.J., is still prolific with superb hot dog places, where you might even be able to get the same dog, it nonetheless hurts when you lose a really good one. I'm still reeling over the loss of the irreplaceable Syd's, Union, N.J.

Bees Knees or not Shelton Dog House was da bomb diggity in hot dogs around the valley. Now it will be another snadwich type place. I loved the Texas Dog hubby loved the Shelton Dog. I hope they open up somewhere else. Not too many good places I so wish Caroline's Weenie Wagon had fries. She is the next best thing around here.

I just happened to drive past the site of the former Shelton Dog House and noticed a Hummel's umbrella outside.  I was driving so I only got a glimpse, but I saw the word chili-dog, and perhaps the name Danny's.  I did not have time to stop (yet), but I am hopeful that something of its old character may have returned.  Is it too much to hope they will still feature Long Sheltons? (Hot dog, chili, cheese, bacon, mmmmmm!)
