Shoney's sold to Atlanta group

Shoney's has about 20 some restaurants around Knoxville and all seem to be doing pretty well but the overall health of the group has not done so well. They have shrunk from around 1000 to about 292 units. I noticed that in todays Knoxville paper, the entire group was sold and the new owner's goal to to return them to their original status. Hello All, We have a good Shoney's in Harrisonburg. They were so successful they decided to build a motel next to the restaurant. The next thing you know the quality of the restaurant seemed to lessen. A few years ago, Best Western took over the motel. The Shoney's seems to do good business on weekend dinners. The last time I was there was a couple years ago for lunch. It was deserted, but the food was okay. I hope they get things turned around. Take Care, Fieldthistle

I still think Shoney's started going downhill when Alex Schoenbaum sold the company. Ah, I have wonderful memories of the great Shoneyburger.
