Short Roadtrip to Chubby's Barbeque

Our family made the 100 mile round trip to eat at Chubby's Barbeque yesterday.  It was where I chose to celebrate my birthday and we had such a great time! My daughter in law's birthday was the day before so that made it really nice.  Besides, Tom being the most gracious and fun host, we had a wonderful server who seemed to love every minute of his job! I especially liked it when Tom asked him to bring a little bit of sherry to put in my cream of crab soup.  He, happily, came back with a large tumbler which was 1/3 full!

The food, as usual was terrific.  My son could not finish his rack of ribs! My daughter in law chose corned beef and cabbage. Now I am in real trouble, as she wants me to duplicate it for dinner tonight.

This was the very best boiled cabbage that I have ever tasted.  It was better than any southern fried cabbage that I have eaten and that is saying something.  I hope that he keeps it on the menu.  He told us that he  made it in chicken broth.  It had Dijon mustard, lots of black pepper and caraway seed in it.  It appeared to be coarsely sliced after the head of cabbage was quartered.  I believe that tiny pieces of corned beef were added at the end.

Dinner ended with Jill and the kids having gooey  cake with a little caramel sauce and excellent ice cream on it.................I am fairly sure that it would come in at 1000 calories.  They all loved it.

Thanks Tom,  for the great food and fun time that we had with you.

OMG........You may not have heard....but they passed a law in MD last year that anyone from Ohio gets 2 free sides on their Birthday, provided they are within 50 miles of the Mason Dixon line.  some sort of tourist-trap thing, I suppose. I think the promotion expires the middle of June, but i'm not sure!

I passed right by Chubby's twice this weekend. Taking son back to school in NY after spring break, we were too early on the trip up and too late on the trip back. My wife wants us to take a day trip there for lunch, only about an hour drive one way for us.

lleechef, I have June 15th on my calendar.  It's written in pencil right now, but I am hoping to change it to ink as we get closer.  It's 328 miles round trip for me, but, the thought of meeting Mr. Hoffman will make the time fly

OK, Tom!  You have opened the door for me to brag about my grandchildren.   The oldest one is Victoria.  She is an outstanding goalie on lacrosse.  I feel free now to tell all  (up until now only 3 roadfooders have been told) that last year, at age 15 she made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at the US Navel Academy.  She is so excited about it and cannot wait to go there.

The 2nd oldest is grandson, age 14.  He has won a couple of hundred medals and trophies.  As, my son says  "He is good, but not the best".  He will get there A few weeks ago, he won the Maryland State Championship in his weight class  and was invited to go to Colorado Springs and train at the Olympic training center there.  He can't wait       leaves this Sunday , with a coach, and flying there

The youngest one is super great as a lacrosse goaltender.  She wants to be as good as her sister.  In the last two tournaments, the coaches on the opposing teams have told her that she is the best lacrosse player they have ever seen in her age group.  Her ambition, right now, is to play lacrosse at St. Mary's  (right near Chubby's Barbeque.)  Her father has promised her that if she goes there, he will take her to Chubby's once a week.  She is thrilled!!

OK  Bragging time is over...........now it is into the laundry room and get a load of those uniforms washed!

Ha! I'll bet that if she goes to St. Marys Tom will take her to Chubby's at least once a week. And he's closer -- say, next door.

Michael & Lisa, in June I will be having a drink with Ed while we scout locations for Chubby's West. We are also looking doing work on Chubby's Sushi, Chubby's In-N-Out burger, Chubby's California Pizza Kitchen, Chubby's Fish& Chips. If everything goes well and we have time, we will also look into Chubby's Disney Adventure. I'm thinking a ride that offers Vodka before you get on.

    Bill,
Hate to burst your bubble, but in June Mr. Tom will be concentrating on my birthday celebration, not your cockamamie West Coast ideas.  But I do like the Vodka ride.  Oh, wait, that happens on Tom's veranda.  Never mind.  Be there or be square.
