OMG........I was just at Smorgasbord in June and missed that!  Would definitely try it!

We have also become partial to Portobello Mushroom burgers...we live next door to the mushroom capital of the world so we get nice big ones fresh.   Sautee on the gill side in butter until some juice comes out, flip.sautee for another cple of mins, adding a helty dash of Garlic, Worcestershire, and balsamic vinegar ( I also add a slice of onion and some BBQ or hot sauce sometimes)  Cover the pan and pop in a 350 oven for 15-20 mins to finish, adding cheese if you want for the last 2 mins.

Served on a toasted bun with home-made French fries

Giovanni burgers can be found on menus around Clarksburg, WV and feature the patty in between slices of grilled, buttery toast,  along with gooey cheese and peppers.

This one is from the Ritzy Lunch.

Toast substitution for buns seems to be an ethnic eastern European thing in the Twin Cities for burgers and breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches.

Here is a burger that will blow your mind. It is the Danny Boy from O'Gara's at the Minnesota State Fair this year. There is a huge burger under that ample slab of corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. I guess it is a Reuben hamburger. I don't see it on their St. Paul, MN O'Gara's Bar and Grill menu.

Is the bread grilled/toasted on one side prior to the assembly process, with the completed burger then finished on the grill?  Or is the bread completely toasted first?

Finally tried a Cronut Burger only to find out that Cronuts do not make good burger buns, and whats the deal with Maple Icing and Cheese on the same burger?

Ack!  I know some people think burgers on a donut (or cronut) bun are great (and God knows I love donuts!), but I'll probably never get it.

Here's what I did get today, though.  It had bacon, cheddar cheese, an onion ring and BBQ sauce.

My photo of The Walking Chedd has been used on a few websites without any kind of accurate attribution. The sandwich is basically just a scam to get people to walk through the door. Its impossible to eat as as sandwich:

Is it me, or are they using breaded pork tenderloins in place of a bun?

Per the website the bun is breaded, deep-fried mac 'n' cheese.

My wife razzes me about Vel, I go into the store and ask for your rarest of rare cheese - Velveta - they always give a big laugh. Some of the best cheese omlets/scrambled are with Vel.

Sounds yummy but expensive. We have a few restaurant here who do gourmet burgers with 2-3 high end cuts, house ground for the burger similar to yours with house baked buns. One an American restaurant in particular comes to mind with a $20 price tag for its burger concoction. Minus the drink and tip of course.
