Shreveport, Louisiana Help Sat, 02/12/05 11:05 AM (permalink)
I'm going to Shreveport on the 25th through the 27th to meet one of the ladies I talk to online we had our babies on the same day and I need some help in finding good food for a good price as you all remember Greg is losing his job in a couple of weeks so budget is a big concern.

Anyone have suggestions or ideas it would be much appreciated I've never been there and the lady I'm meeting is not from there either...so HELP ME!! lol :)

Leania: I visit our grand kids (and son and daughter in law LOL) in Shreveport about every 6 months. First do a search here on Shreveport. There are several suggestions to look at. Not knowing how many days you will be there I must tell you to go to the "Norton Museum" on Line Ave. w/ your on line friend! Free and a great take! Check out the "Remington" bronze pieces! You will be amazed! We found this museum when we were trying to kill 4 hours before our flight and someone local suggested it! From there, after that visit we were looking for lunch! That lead us to "Semolina" which is a chain...I found out later! Great Italian food at reasonable prices! We loved it. It's right around the corner from the museum! Also a walk along the river right around the "Red River District" is in order! Beautiful...and again free! There's an arboretum (Barnwell Garden and Art Center)and another very small art museum there too!Plenty of free parking in the huge garage! Lovely...and YES FREE! If you do this you'll be in the "downtown" area (Red River District). If I think of any in that area will write again!Walk around inside "Harrah's Casino"...it's very pretty and FREE if you're just looking! I don't gamble but enjoy people watching and seeing the buildings! Just outside downtown is a decent "diner" kind of place called: "Sammy's Restaurant" 1727 N. Market,Shreveport LA, 318-222-4025. Breakfast is served all day. We were there for breakfast twice and it was good.Have no idea what their hours are. Also we found a great bakery called "Julie Anne's Bakery and Cafe". We only bought pasteries and they were unreal! But they have "lunch and supper" foods too! Julie Anne's 825 KJing's Highway (opposite Byrd High),Shreveport LA. Mon.-Sat. 6:30 AM-6:00PM. Closed Sunday. Prices are reasonable.Hope this post helped! Have fun. Happy eating! KokomoJoe

For great food at modest prices, go to Strawn's Eat Place, 125 Kings Hwy for breakfast or lunch. They are open 6am-3pm. The blue plate specials are $5.50 and the pie is to die for. George's - just a couple of blocks further east on Kings Hwy is also a great place for eating on a budget.
