Sick of Grease!

I am so sick and tired of cleaning out our fryer and carrying the oil out back to that smelly, nasty bin thing. And paying to do have it hauled away! Has anyone found a better solution?

You could just filter it and reuse it? This would be especially true if you were using it to just fry one or two products because the oil wouldn't be saturated with a myriad of different flavors. I was watching the food channel the other day, and they had this place that deep frys their burgers using the same fryer oil they used in 19 bloody 12 (1912). Around here, there are even people that pay you to collect your oil. What they use it for I'm not sure. You could also refine it and use it as a biodiesel.

The "people that pay you for it" are long gone. Almost all reclaiming centers make you pay for the privilege of them taking it off your hands as it is classified as waste. They in turn sell it to biodiesel companies for a tidy profit on both ends. You can not use the same oil over and over again as it will degrade over time and be full of minute particulates that will make anything cooked in it taste burned. you can however extend the life of the oil by filtering it in the store with a few different methods. Cone filter method: Metal slotted china cap with paper filter cone. Drain directly into the cone and filter. put filtered oil back and fill to the spec line. Cost: minimal for product. Labor intensive. Automatic pump: Automatic filter pump with circular feed. A diamectous earth and paper filter that will filter up to 90% of particulate matter and increase your oil life. Cost: $300.00 and up, used. Saves labor costs. David O.

Dont want to clean grease----DONT SELL FRIED FOODS! Sorry folks--but if you want make the profits-you gotta do the work involved! When i read post like this i wonder about the use of the term "professional" --i was a cook for many years--like 17--and know that owning a food service business doesnt make one a PRO--attitude and training do!

Try placing an ad on Craigslist, free used fryer oil. I bet you will get someone doing bio-diesel that will take it off your hands. In Europe many people run their diesel cars on cooking waste.

So what happens when some fool thinks he scored some free frying oil to fry? We just went through the "try buying prime rib grease to make gravy" insanity here.

Not selling fried foods - that is just un-American these days! I am very healthy myself and when I changed my menu to healthier choices my customers went elsewhere. Fries with that are just a staple unfortunetly. I would love to see the day when fast food means good healthy food. Since I am buying oil and selling fried foods by popular demand, are there any sources better than Costco or Sams club to buy oil at a good price?

I tell my employees, don't Bitch about things that aren't going to change. You can complain until the cows come home, but, next week you are still going to clean the vats, haul the oil, and I'm going to pay $35 a month for someone to haul it away. ...........Billyb ........I pay $22 for 35#container

We seriously considered making the biodiesel thing while in NC. We were told it's illegal to sell used fryer grease. Your best bet is to post on Craigs List or Freecycle and have someone haul it off for free. You will still be pouring it into a bin most likely. there is an outfit in Asheville that was contracting to pick up everyones grease. They were supposed to be building a biodiesel distillery in Macon, Swain or Clay county. Don't know what happened about that since we left. You might look into the skoolie.net forums. There are some guys there running their skoolies off WVO. I think some might be in MI.

If you want to make money, you deal with the grease. As for getting rid of the used oil, I`ve had on numerous occasions people ask for it after an event. If I can`t get rid of it that way, theres a 7-11 on every street corner or every restaurant has a container out back to dispose of oil in. Kinda have to do it after hours! lol

I think they were looking for neighbor friendly ways of discarding the oil, not sneaking around at night...........Billyb

When you get home and someone dumped 10 old tires and a few car batteries on your lawn that is karma. They... of course would be a SOB.

I knew I`d get some responses to my ideas of where to dump your oil. There are no less than 20 convinent stores in town and approx. 45 restuarants that I can choice from. Also there is a guy locally I could contact to give my oil to to recycle. But to ease most of your minds, I have made arrangements with a local store to dispose of my oil at his place, except for the few times I travel thru Bayonne NJ and then I just dump it out on a Wal-Mart parking lot along with 10 tires and a few junk batteries. RIP people, some of you need to stop and smell the roses..........

I don't know how it works in other places but if you got caught doing that here many places would not say tsk tsk tsk or call the police.

I was gathering used oil (for biodiesel production) from vendors near me till they told me they were getting paid for it now. So now I don't do that anymore. I'll just hafta use my own oil, when we start our own place up. Biodiesel is getting to be the next hot ticket.

Are fryer is stainless and has a black knob on the front to adjust the temperature. I don't see a brand name on it. Is this important for how to clean it out the most efficiently way?
