Since it's coming up...what's the one Thanksgiving dish you DON'T want to have?

I thought since we have one on things we want, how about don't want. I already had Thanksgiving last month, but will be having another one this month here in Texas where I live now. I don't ever want cranberry sauce on my plate, or for that matter, any kind of casserole either. How about you?

I'll second the sweet potatoes, mashed, with marshmallows or any other combination of ingredients, but I do like them plain, baked with a little salt and butter.

Turkey. I truly hate turkey. Anything else is negotiable, but if no one ever puts me in the same room with turkey again I will be a very happy woman.

Like BelleReve, I can't stand spiced-up, over-sweetened, marshmallowed-up sweet potatoes, but I do like them baked or sliced and fried like home fries. Like Seamus, I am also not big on the green bean casserole, since I don't like the "dead" flavor of mushrooms.

All you cranberry and sweet potato haters just need some Jack Daniels in them. FOR YOUR CRANBERRIES: Bake your cranberries, put 1 bag of cranberries on a baking dish, pour 1 1/2 cups white sugar thats mixed with 1/2 tsp cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg over the cranberries in the dish. Cover it with foil. Bake it for 1 hour at 350. Take it out, AWAY FROM HEAT remove foil and pour a little more than 1/4 cup Jack Daniels over it, stir it, let it come completely to room temperture before you refrigerate it. Its the only way to eat cranberries. It will keep till Christmas. Serve cold. FOR THE SWEET POTATOES: Follow Paula Deen's Ole no.7 yams recipe, you really need to boil down the syrup mixture for 45 minutes though. http://www.foodnetwork.co...yams-recipe/index.html I don't want to have any kind of salad, I make it just for the kids, a Cesar salad, they want that every year.

I had always made candied sweet potatoes with white sweet potatoes. But, my sweet son-in-law grew up with the mashed sweet potato casserole with the minature marshmallows on top. So now I make the sweet potato casserole for him. I can have candied sweet potatoes anytime, Thanksgiving is about family so I include the casserole for him.

My Mother like the whole cranberry sauce. I get the jelled for my sister. A few years ago my Mother retaliated by breaking it apart so you do not see the lines. I had to go out and get another can so my sister would not be upset. If she does not see the lines in the cranberry sauce...it is not Thanksgiving.

nocarolina SeamusD I might get flamed for this... green bean casserole. You're not alone... I hate green beans. I love green beans, I just hate mushrooms and mushroom soup. And I'd rather have fresh green beans sauteed in a little olive oil and garlic than the salty, mushy mess from a can.

I don't want canned cranberry sauce, and I'm glad no one else here will want it either. We will have cranberry-orange relish, though.

Deviled Eggs For some reason, my family and my wifes family seem to make trays of these things to sit around for people to snack on. You cant turn around without running into a tray of them and the problem is,,,nobody eats them. Its sensless.

Not an item most think of ever, but I can pretty much do with out Brussels Sprouts. I won't say I never eat them but I have to feel especailly virtuous to eat Brussels Sprouts. I'd rather have cabbage or collards or almost any other leafy green vegetable.

I think it's one of those things that people get into a habit of making for a get together. Also, they're so easy to do...one of the few 60s cocktail party recipes that survived. http://www.foodtv.ca/cont...;Category=Entertaining Born in OKC Not an item most think of ever, but I can pretty much do with out Brussels Sprouts. I wish I could still eat deviled eggs... I developed an allergy to eggs in my early 20's, so no more for me since then.

deviled eggs might be a predominantly southern thing. every homemaker has at least one serving platter with the little egg-shaped indentations to keep the eggs upright. when i do them for a get-together it's like a nostalgia thing with people saying they haven't had them in forever and wish they thought of them more often. and they're the first thing gone. i devil the yolks with mayo, brown mustard and srirachi hot sauce.

brussel sprouts are a fave of mine but i don't do them for thanksgiving. too may people just don't care for them. i do them by halving them and steaming for a couple of minutes. then toss in olive oil, salt and pepper and spreading on a baking sheet and baking at 375 until the center is tender and outside has bits of brown.

I don't think it's a Southern thing at all! My family came to Michigan by way of Canada, and one of the first "hope chest" items we were given was a glass tray for serving devilled eggs at home AND a plastic one with a lid to take them elsewhere. We make them all the time, sometimes only a few at a time just for ourselves.
