I, personally, do not care for slaw on my pulled pork sandwich but the rest of my family just loves it...............different strokes for different folks!

I think it's a cool and crunchy counterpoint to the warm and spicy pork. Both on a squishy, cheap, white-bread roll is my idea of a very good time.

In west tn. where there is plenty of great barbecue the slaw recipe is as critical as the sauce. The right slaw on a pork sandwich with the right sauce is heaven.

I'll have to try it. Love slaw on pastrami with thousand island (Russian) dressing on an onion roll.

Slaw is great on pork, beef, hot dogs, the creamy kind of course. Vinager based slaw is only good with fresh fish n chips.

Yummm.....you are so right and I could not have said it better. And, with a good squirt of your favorite hot sauce. It's like dying and going to Heaven.

I agree as well. With the vinegar sauce on NC BBQ, it makes for a very nice counterpoint.

I've always liked the slaw as topping. The cruch is good, and the mayo base really helps out when the BBQ is on the dry side.

When I heard about slaw on a chili dog, I thought the person who posted the idea was smoking something illegal. But, I tried it.. Why I didn't think about it years earlier is beyond me, but it got me hooked. I can just imagine how good it would go with some pork..

But there is a fantastic Pizza shop only 100 yards from there....called KINGS I'll do a report on it soon.....

You know what else I've put slaw on? A Chick-Fil-A sandwich--their slaw's pretty good anyway and if the chicken fillet is on the dry side, just slathering it under the bun is excellent. I saw that Mister Hoffman. :)

We met the Durgin Park/Boston tour clan for dinner on Saturday at All Star Sandwich Bar in Cambridge, and I ordered the Eastern NC BBQ sandwich, which surprisingly looked like Greg's pic above. Though I like slaw, I usually don't get it on the sandwich, but this one came with it. The vinegar sauce was very spicy, and the creamy slaw was a perfect complement -- Brentk is exactly right. Being from the Carolinas, I can tell you that slaw normally comes on BBQ sandwiches unless you say something to the contrary when ordering...for I was a "no slaw" 'Q eater until adulthood!

I too enjoy slaw on my pulled pork sandwich, I prefer the mayo based creamy style. Short Sugars in Danville, Va. offers a nice 'spicy' slaw that I enjoy also. It's kinda reddish in color not sure what's in it, just that it tastes great.

I like finely chopped vinegar-based slaw on a sweet pork barbecue.

I am partial to the "red slaw" served with NC "Lexington style" BBQ. The slaw is made with the "dip" (sauce) that is used in preparing the pork shoulders. No mayonaise- just dip. I can't imagine a BBQ sandwich without slaw. But I much prefer to have my Q on a tray, with huspuppies and slaw, instead of on a sandwich.

Well, chewingthefat, I agree with you. I will have my slaw on the side, please....NEVER on my barbecue sandwich! (even as pretty as that picture is) However, I don't argue with those who would put their slaw on their 'cue...because after all, I like some strange things such as ketchup on my hotdogs!
