Slopes Barbecue - Atlanta area Sat, 07/5/03 11:32 AM (permalink)
Made a nice visit to Slopes Barbecue in Alpharetta - really good meat and sauce. Unlike most places, they also include vegetables - limas, greens, wonderful potato salad, brunswick stew, mac and cheese to go along with your barbecue. They have places in Alpharetta, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Woodstock. They also sell in bulk and we took 4th of July dinner home with us! Very impressed. I've had better stew; but "doctored" it up with sauce and much improved!!

Slope's has good barbecue, but their Brunswick stew is too sweet. It
doesn't have any vegetables in it, so you may want to get a side of
limas and corn on the cob to add to it. On the other hand, their baked beans are the best I've had in Georgia.

For barbecue in Roswell, I prefer Dreamland on Alpharetta Highway. But Slope's sides definitely edge out the competition. It's worth a trip just for the blackberry cobbler.

I work for a company in that area and when we have a meeting they always go to a place in Buford, it's on Buford Hwy, called The Cluck and Pig. I hear it only has a couple of tables but the Q and the beans and potato salad we have is usually very good.

When I first moved to Georgia, I ate at the Woodstock Slope's with some regularity. Over the years we quit going, and never seemed to miss it. Recently, I have eaten at the Roswell and Sandy Springs locations several times. The blackberry cobbler. black eye peas and fried okra are particularly good. Since we had enjoyed these two locations, we figured the chain had improved. We went back to Woodstock recently, and it was as unimpressive as ever. We will not return to Woodstock. It is amazing to me that the different locations can be so different. I ate at the Sandy Springs location twice this week, and both meals were excellent. Both the rib plates and the pork sandwiches are very good.

Have eaten at Slope's in Roswell a couple of times & although their sides are very good I found the sauce a little bland.

The Original Slopes in Woodstock (behind Stevie's pizza) has always been consistent and quite good. When in the Roswell area I usually go to Dreamland or Chick and Pig for BBQ.

Our opinions do vary, don't they? That is the beauty of the Roadfood participants. I don't plan to ever return to the Woodstock Slope's or the Roswell Dreamland. Pig & Chick is acceptable, but I prefer KC Pit BBQ. As soon as my wife gets home this evening, I plan on suggesting the Roswell Slope's.

I've been meaning to make a trip to Sandy Springs for KCPB.
That and Swallow At the Hollow in Roswell. Has anyone been to Smokejack's? I tried their Pulled Pork at the Taste of Alpharetta last year but haven't been to their restaurant. They have a pretty ambitious menu for a barbecue joint, even an upscale one.

Coincidentally, an incident happened at work today involving
Slope's. The afternoon shift came in and one of them smelled
really strongly of pork. Maybe I was especially attuned to it
because I hadn't eaten all day for a cholesterol test and then
had to grab a sandwich for lunch. I said, "No offense, I know
you used to be a cop, but you smell like bacon." He made that
Pee-Wee Herman "That was so funny I forgot to laugh" noise but
then realized that I wasn't kidding. He had been eating Slope's
Brunswick Stew and had a container of it sitting on the desk.
