Slow dancing when you were a teen...the best songs

It was so fantastic to be dancing with a girl you had a crush on when some fantastic slow song would start playing, you'd ask her do you want to dance? sure she says, your heart starts beating faster, mid dance she puts her hand on the back of your neck, you almost get dizzy, she seems to pull you closer, the song is perfect for this most romantic moment, What the name of this perfect song? Till Then? Image of a Girl? Lavender Blue?

"Till then " is way up there and several pieces by the Platters. But does anyone remember a group named "Tom, Dick and Jimmy?" They had an LP that played briefly in the Dallas, TX area some where close to the 1970 New Year I think and I don't know their real names or if anything they recorded ever charted. The main song on the album was similar to "If you loved me," and it was sensational, something like the Air Supply sound years later but without the strain in the lead voice. Man I'd like to get a copy of that LP today.

Although I wasn't a teen until the 60's, at parties and dances in Brooklyn the doo wop of the 50's was still very prevalent, especially the slow songs. "You Gave Me Peace of Mind" by the Spaniels is one I remember hearing at just about every teen dance or party I went to back then. 2 minutes and 45 seconds of The Slow Grind (either that or being told to leave room for the Holy Ghost...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDjPMwVgRFk

It came out before I was a teen, but if I have to dance to Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" ever again (especially at weddings), I'll cut my sack off.

<<I grew up in Yonkers but I never heard that Spaniels' song on the radio back then >> I don't think we ever heard it on the radio either, more like it was just one of those doo wop records that became popular after the fact. Another slow one I remember that was a regular at dances and parties was Deserie by The Charts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b-CPRyAkNM

The time that I danced with the one I cared for at that time was so special, I do not even remember the song, tune and etc. That was 50 years ago for me and I can still remember the dance but no longer can remember the song. I do remember the girl. I married her and the marriage lasted four months. I hardly remember whose fault it was. Probably both of ours as we were extremely immature. I waited another six years before I remarried and our marriage lasted 43 years until my wife passed away. I will never remarry although I have a very close friend. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

The first ever slow-dance for me... 1954, 7th grade, with 'Claudia'... the tune was "EARTH ANGEL" followed shortly after by "Silhouettes" and "Harlem Nocturne". Or the Big Band sound of "Moonlight in Vermont" And whoever did "Blue Velvet" had a winner in my book! A little later Santo and Johnny's "SLEEPWALK" (1959) was another favorite! I was a young teacher later when "Hey Jude" came out of the Beatles, but still young enough to dance to it when I could.

"Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Aaron Presley. No live Elvis but lyrics It was before dating, but I always was partial to "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos. Video I still get goose bumps when I hear that song. I've watched lots of dancing to Harlem Nocturne but I never imagined dancing with someone to it. Viscounts version

The real "slow drag" music (as my brothers called it) was around when I was a little girl, but growing up in a house wth two brothers who are six and eight years older than me, this music that they used to call Oldies But Goodies, was my music too. Even if it was just to listen to and sing with! The real slow dancing came later... These songs are still fantastic and very romantic to listen to! "To Make a Long Story Short" - Eddie & the Starlites "I Need Someone" - Lenny Welch (he also had a big hit with his version of "Since I Fell For You") "Sad Girl" - Jay Wiggins (1963) "Moonlight Cocktails" - Rivieras Any of these four by Lee Andrews & The Hearts: "I'm Sorry Pillow", "Long Lonely Nights", "Teardrops" or "Try The Impossible" "Oh, What a Night" - the Dells "In the Still of the Night" - 5 Satins "Tonite Tonite" - Mello-Kings (my brother Fred LOVED!!!! this song) Some of these may have been listed, but I know of and remember so many more. I think of my two big brothers, who are now 62 and 64, and I'm transported back to our livingroom when I was little, back to those wild parties when our parents weren't home! All that making out! I had no idea what the big deal was about that. LOL.

This one was played almost continuously at my first teen party. The girl that was having the party said they forgot to bring the rest of the records. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3PSL1yXTL8 It's been one of my favourites ever since. Funny, even after looking up the link and listening to it I had to go back again and listen to this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8clzAoyRYQ
