Out here in Southern California at least, Smashburger is so much better than 5 guys there is no way to describe it. And to compare it to McDees is a joke, maybe because of different franchiees???

...oh they have different fries from the poor ones they serve in Jersey? (5 Guys fries are amazing) they serve peanuts free?.....oh they don't charge you for many of the toppings?...oh and they serve you guys better meat?...oh an they have those blend your own Coke machines??????????? Really.....

Between the two chains: 5 Guy's Burgers hands down. Smash Burgers Sweet Potato Tots are in their own class of yumminess. Burgers and Brews has a killer Jalapeno Bacon Cheese Burger (and have Hoegaarden Beer on tap)! Their Basil Mozzarella Burger (not on the menu but run as a special)  is my favorite of all the three chain restaurants I mentioned. P.S Today i had a Cheese Burger from a Italian restaurant for lunch that is NOW one of my favorite Burgers. Yummy Yummers!  (Turtle66 Foodie by heart Chef by trade)

I cannot understand how anyone can say good things about Smashburger. The burgers are barely a step up from McDonald's, but messier, and the fries are way less than promised.

lleechef and I had high hopes when we went to the Smashburger when it opened here. We were very disappointed.

We have Smash Burgers in San Antonio and apparently Elevation Burgers has three in Austin and one in Houston. We are getting an In and Out Burger in Windcrest a suburb of San Antonio.
Five Guys is pretty good both it an dFreddy's Custard (burgers, etc.) are in the Forum at Olympia Hills by me,so I don't have to drive far for either one. Of course we have Whataburger and Sonic too.
And we have Chester's which is a local San Antonio chain.
Unfortunately Smash Burger is on the other side of town so I never go out that way to try it or Culver's either.

Never had a Smashburger but I do enjoy 5 Guys and What-a-Burger. I used to sing the praises of In-N-Out when I visited Oxnard but since they opened up here in Round Rock I am less than impressed. I really enjoy 5 Guys fries.

I never did understand why people like 5 Guys burgers so much.  I find them a bit bland.

They've just opened two Smashburgers in Camden County, NJ, and to be honest, we're not running to try them. We might, out of curiousity, one day, but it's rare we're in that area anymore. And I think I would pass out if they opened anything new in the immediate area I live in now. We haven't been to Five Guys for awhile - months - and if we need a chain burger fix, we go to Red Robin. I just had to get that free birthday burger!
