The one here is Wilkes-Barre PA is still very popular. The quality is highly franchise dependent. Ours isn't bad at all. It's not roadhouse BBQ, but it's good food. A chain restaurant could aspire to less and be more successful; props to these guys for shooting for the moon, even though they didn't hit it. Tom

I think smokye bones basic meat products are better than 80% of the independent bbq restaurants. imo, their food would never be considered top rate bbq but as food goes it's decent and as bbq goes it's better then the product that is served at the average mom and pop place. This past friday I ate at 5 different independents in western north carolina and only 1 served a good chopped/pulled pork sandwich. one was fair, and the other 3 wouldnt get a re-visit on a bet. not that they served bad food..it was just food. as bbq goes it was not a good day until the last stop. there's a lot of just ok food out there in the land of bbq that isn't good que.

At Hoffman's age, he has to get as many of those in as he can before he runs out of time.

The one in Johnson City, TN was still open last time I was by a few weeks ago. They had a big banner saying "WE'RE OPEN! and also a couple of help wanted signs prominently displayed in front of the building.

Just went by the local Smokey Bones in Ft Myers today (next to a big wine store which was my destination to get ready for some house guests) and it was still open and doing business. Parking lot was about one-third full, whereas I seem to remember that it always used to be pretty nearly full. I wonder how they manage to keep their help knowing that Darden has already pulled the plug on their future? I guess they haven't found a buyer yet. QFan Bonita Springs, FL
