Snacks from Pennsylvania and Maryland Sat, 09/10/05 3:25 AM (permalink)
I am going on vacation next month to D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. I would like to bring back some snack foods that are only available regionally. I could go into the grocery store and grab anything with an unfamiliar name, but that could result in getting something of inferior quality. I am looking for chips, cookies, snack cakes, sodas, and all other munchies. Give me some recommendations, Please!!!

Thanks

CNW

In Philly, you'll find the full, fresh range of Tastykake products.

Baltimore has Goetze's Caramel Creams and Berger Cookies. You can find these in supermarkets.

          Potato Chips:

Grandma Utz Handcooked Kettle Chips are awfully good. My favorites were always Groff's, but I don't know if they make them anymore. Middleswarth is another favorite---regular and bar-b-que, they can be a little inconsistent, but sometimes heavenly.

If you see Unique brand pretzels called Splits, definitely pick up a couple of bags of those. I'd also recommend a jar of Tallarico brand peppers in sauce for making sausage and pepper sandwiches. Most grocery stores in the Philadelphia area carry that brand.
