This year it is chicken wild rice soup for Christmas Eve. That's Minnesota wild grown and hand harvested wild rice not the tasteless California cultivated kind that didn't even exist when we first moved to Minnesota. Then Christmas will be Swedish meatballs. I guess after 43 years in Minnesota we've finally assimilated. No Lutefisk yet. No one gave us any homemade lefse this year. My wife will get her pickled herring. I will get my annual mince meat pie on my birthday. On my wife's winter solstice birthday I made her a pizza. We've gone beyond cake in our preferences.

Christmas Day dinner is now going to be Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese. I'll still be doing to Cornish hens and everything else, but it'll be at least the weekend before I can stand up long enough to cook. And my Dad's party got moved to January 18th because of weather.

Tonight it's an enormous amount of king crab legs. Tomorrow standing rib roast, twice-baked potatoes, asparagus with hollandaise, cookies and sweet potato pie.
MH will be having Chef Boyardee ravioli sous vide........

Filets, fried potatoes and eggs for breakfast, then cherrywood-smoked baby back ribs, ABT's (jalapeno poppers), scotch eggs and various other side dishes with pumpkin pie for dessert.

OK let's see. Fresh blue crab & Gulf of Mexico shrimp au gratin (fontina, goat, & smoked swiss cheeses), broiled lobster, sautéed asparagus, caramel chocolate pie, Sister Schubert's yeast rolls with butter and more butter, and more. We had some ribeyes and a filet or three, but those will keep, until tomorrow. Maybe...

Davvydd, your eve and day dinners sound delicious! On the Solstice my daughter Emily decided "breakfast for dinner" was perfect and she was right! I made buttermilk pancakes, bacon and sausage. We also baked cookies and lit lots of candles as always! Christmas Eve was two roast ducks and seafood gumbo and for Christmas Day we ordered out Chinese takeout which we did last year for the first time, due to circumstances, and it became a hit. Since no elaborate dinner was to be made for today I made a Caramel Pie, Cheese Cake and Chocolate Pudding along with  Home made Whipped Cream for our deserts! Merry Christmas and Happy Yule to all!!

Well, I didn't get the promised Chef Boyardee for Christmas dinner. But I have to say the standing rib roast, twice-baked potato and asparagus dinner was spectacular.

<<No Lutefisk yet

You may laugh, but there are still pockets of Norweigan families in Bay Ridge Brooklyn NY where I grew up. I just spoke to my sister who went back to the hood for a family Christmas dinner today with a Norwegian family we have known for 50+ years. And yep, Lutefisk was part of the menu (thankfully not the main part).

What an amazing array of goodies everyone had!  Everything sounds so good.  (and Agnes--I want that caramel pie, for sure.)  I think the Chinese restaurant "tradition" is kind of fun and especially since there's no clean-up! Thanks to everyone who shared.

My most favorite thing on our table was my sister's homemade cinnamon buns at breakfast:
