We are having  standing rib roast  (not prime but looks terrific)

We will have shrimp cocktails to start   (my oldest granddaugter makes the  best cocktail sause..................She is  11 years old and has learned that you have to have more horseradish than catsup!

We are also having spinach sauteed in garlic and olive oil   and   carrots done in a maple syrup sauce.  Homemeade crecent rolls are a must but I dread even telling what our potatoes will be.

My  7 year old grandaughter has only had  tater tots in school until last week when I informed her that  people do serve them at home.  She was thrilled with that and  begged for tater tots which we had one night.  She now is begging for them for Christmas and so  (I hang my head in shame)  we are going to have a Tater  Tot  casserole!

Oldest daughter is bringing loads of  Christmas cookies which we will have with some peppermint ice cream.   Lots of eggnog,  cider and wine will be served.

There is no shame in "Tater Tots!!" I love them with melted cheese and brown gravy.. kind of like a potine. The rest of the menu looks great also.

Christmas Eve we have a standing tradition of going out for a Breakfast Dinner 20+ years now. We now go out with three couples to Waffle House the last few years and Tip an extra $100 dollars to the server. You walk in with 6 adults and 5 teenagers the waitress isn't very happy until she gets the Monster Tip. Everyone tips big as those are the rules so she may get $200 or more total. I never ask what the others give but I am sure its big. We usually have more than one server. Christams will be small because we oonly have my Daughter and Son in Law. So it will be a 6 lb Prime Rib and Baked Potatoe....Russ

I want to go to Greymo's house!!! Tater tots...egg nog...cookies...horseradishy cocktail sauce...maple carrots...homemade crescent rolls...

Russ that's awesome...I love doing stuff like that. I know a few servers that had to work Thanksgiving and some that have to work Christmas...they obviously don't mind too much and wouldn't have to if they really didn't want to but it's groups like yours that make it worth it...just hope they're not too grumpy through the meal

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas everyone!

It's so interesting to see what people from all parts of the country and backgrounds prepare and eat for the holiday season.  We've always stuck to tradition and had pretty much the same thing every year until about five years ago - we began trying different recipes.  We still have our must have favorites but we've branched out quite a bit from the old days.

This Christmas Eve we're doing appetizers:

                Shrimp Shooters
                Brie Encroute
                Melon and Prociutto Purses
                Crawfish Tarts
                Marinated Olive & Artichoke Tray
                Cheese Trees
                Crab Stuffed Cherry Peppers

                And a Chocolate Mousse Torte.

Tomorrow we stick to tradition and have ham, smoked turkey, stuffing, vegetables and rolls.  For tomorrow night, beef tenderloin, baked potatoes & salad.

After all this I may never want to eat again.................

That appears more like a feast.  Sure sounds good to me.

That amount of food would do me and my ugly dog a month at least.

Christmas Eve dinner is always roast duck and seafood gumbo. Here's last nights...

This afternoon will be a leg of lamb. We have nice leftovers for the next couple of days! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

                                  shrimp remoulade
                                  root-beer glazed ham
                                  cauliflower with cheese sauce
                                  eggplant and shrimp casserole
                                  sweet ptotatoes
                                  pineapple casserole
lemon meringue pie, pecan pie, and lemon-cranberry cake

Everything went well, with lots of ham for everone to take some home.  For lunch today I'm having ham on pump with mayo and creole mustard.
