I suspect this one will be a tough-y. I hope you get some leads, I'd enjoy a visit to one myself.

There is a pharmacy fountain in Portland, Oregon called Fairley"s pharmacy. Serves phosphates, malts, shakes, flavored cokes. One of the last of its kind. Ypu cpuld combine it with a visit to Oaks Park, our retro but fun amusement park.

Here's one that is way on the other side of the state, not really a short road trip from Seattle. Doyle's is smack dab on a corner in one of the most run-down decrepit neighborhoods in Spokane. A neighborhood I grew up in! It is maybe five minutes off of I-90. Doyle's... here's a short blurb http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4186/is_200406/ai_n11695962

Baker's Restaurant 12534 Lake City Way N.E. Seattle, WA 98125-4425 Phone: 206-365-1888 Fax: 206-363-6801 my favorite for big gooey sundaes ~ this place makes their own chocolates, and incorporates them into the desserts. the food is good too. in particular, the corn fritters ~ burgers n fries and onion rings. super thick malts made the old fashioned way...

If you want to add a root beer drive-in to your plans, there is a Triple X Root Beer stand in Issaquah, WA that is kind of neat with a giant root beer barrel on the roof. This is only one of two XXXs left from what was once a national chain. I've been to the other one in West Lafayette, IN and consider their root beer to be very tasty.
