I do like the fact that you can get an egg sandwich anytime. I usually don't because I know it's going to have that fake canned butter juice all over it, but I know it's there. Hey, wasn't McDonald's supposed to start selling its McMuffins all day long? Does that happen where any of you are?

mar52 My post just vanished as I was typing it! Hey Bill! It's my cousin the pedeodontist who lives there... now in Ashland. I'd definitely stop for a drink at Sonics and would hope that the Mom and Pop Mexican place in the south part of Medford was still there. I think it was West of the 5 paralleling the 5 at the first exit for Medford. Are there still only 2 Medford exits? Happy New Year! We've got about a hundred mom & pop Mexi places Well, now you've got to come next summer There will always be just 2 medford exits since there isn't room between the ones that are there to put another one

I like that their full menu in most places is always available. Don'[t find that frequently in fast food places. I love it for nostalgia, as much as anything else. I first had it with my grandma in Colorado one time at the age of 7, and did not get it again until I was 21 years old with my now ex husband on vacation visiting his family in Oklahoma. I totally love their cherry limeaids.....and a strawberry limeaid there isn't bad either. I really like their cheeseburgers, and their coney dogs don't suck either. But it doesn't really matter--none of them in the DC metro area I just moved from, and none in the Seattle metro area I just moved to:(

Like anything else, I think we want what we can't have easily...! While I would love an In-N-Out burger place way out here in the Midwest, others are used to it on the West coast. Similarly, I grew up with Sonic in Oklahoma and Kansas. Nostalgia has a way of whetting one's appetite, and I have fond memories of Sonic (as well as A&W!) as a child in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Now? Like Navy_Brat, I do like the cheeseburgers and the coney dogs. I never get the specialty drinks; I cut way back on sugary/HFCS stuff a few years ago! Sonic is good for a quick pretty good meal I can order, and take home.

Oh yeah, the availability is key. From 20-32 I lived with or near my ex hub, a military man, in 5 different states. 2 of those states had readily available Sonics.....so I lived for almost 5 continuous years right near sonic. I went maybe 5 times in 3 years in Alabama, and maybe 3 times in 2 years in Missouri. Then after the divorce I moved to the DC metro area, no sonic. Missed it terribly. Now I'm in the Northwest again, no sonic. Miss it terribly. On the plus side, both dc and seattle have A & W, which may not have cherry limeaids, but has good chili dogs and burgers, lol.

I've eaten at Sonic a number of times in recent years, primarily in my auto-travels down south. For a FF chain, it's pretty decent. Their food definitely tastes better than the food at McDonald's and Burger King ( but then, so do Alpo and Purina Dog Chow - but that's a subject for another thread! ) Sonic's menu is a little more interesting than those of their FF competition, but I'm still not going out of my way to eat there. Well, I made a liar out of myself earlier today. I went out of my way ( just a little ) to eat at the new Sonic in Country Club Hills IL. Unfortunately, this Sonic experience didn't match the ones I've had down south. I had a double-cheeseburger and fries, and not only were the burger patties rather lacking in flavor, but the kitchen staff put enough mustard and ketchup on the burger to drown a hamster. At least the burger and fries were both hot. I doubt if I'll be going back.

after eating the breakfast sandwichs & coney dogs for a long time, both are very good, I decided to try a burger ONLY because I had a coupon for a buy 1 get 1 single. what a disappointment. too much bun, not enough burger. I put both burgers & toppings on one bun. I'll stick with the breakfast sandwichs & dogs.

Sonic's headquarters is here in Okla. City, so they're on every corner - almost! They can make almost any drink combination you want. Cherry limeades are great. Once, I ordered a cherry limeade with extra cherry and when I looked inside the cup, there were no fewer than 20 cherries in the cup. I guess I got the extra cherry I asked for! Their blended floats are good, and, as mentioned, the onion rings are, also. When we moved to Oklahoma back in 1976, some of the Sonics had tables inside for eating in, but I don't think any do now.

Mimi- When I ask for extra Lime I get one extra 'half', but if I ask for extra Cherry, the same thing that you received happened to me...at least a dozen Cherries w/stems will be in the drink. Luckily the straws they use are strong enough to spear those Cherries in the deep cup !

I was at the Sonic in Flint, Michigan back in December. In the past few months we've gone from no Sonics whatsoever to four (two in Detroit, one in Flint, one in Kalamazoo). I don't think it's *great* but I'd say it's above average. I thought the food looked and tasted a bit more "real" than average fast food, and the coffee was pretty strong. Thumbs up in my book.

LOVE the Sonic:) A slush from the Sonic is a part of most outings my best friend and I take together (running errands, grocery shopping, it's our reward), and their grilled chicken sandwich on cibatta bread is really good. I also refuse to start a long road trip without a big mug of Sonic ice and a Rte 44 slushie. The day I learned I could buy Sonic ice by the bag was a happy dad indeed:)

In my nbeck of the woods (west palm beach) a steak n shake which had been there for 5+ years went out of business after a sonic opened next door last year. Incredible. I don't fully get the mystique of sonic either.......bkk

I live in Illinois (east-central). We have had a Sonic for a few years now. It is my opinion that, while there is certainly nothing wrong with them, I don't understand why some think they are just great. Oh well.

I had my first sonic on a trip down south. We have I think ONE in NJ maybe 2. I liked that there were more selections but I hate eating in my car! I was happy there was grilled cheese for my son but there was too much salt, the fries were AWFUL. I think the lure are the drinks Cherry Lime is fantastic!
