It is incredible what people do when driving. Actually eating A sonic footlong w/chili while driving would probably be an improvement around here to the 8 of 10 that are chattering on their cellphone. We've got half of them going 20mph and the other half going 90mph. Might as well get some chili dogs in the mix.

On OKC's rec I must now try the new Sonic chili dog w/ a cherry limeade. And yes, I will be thinking of Shanghai Jimmy.

For those who have not had the joy of chili w/ lemon or limeade give it a try. Tha cherry part will be new for me but hey... sounds great!

Foodbme said, in part:
YOU'RE EATING A FOOTLONG WHILE DRIVING!!???" />" />
Do you talk on your cell phone at the same time too?
At least you'll have a full stomach when they take you to the Hospital after rthe crash.

SURE DO.

Hot dog pulled out of the wrap a little and placed on the  seat beside me.  Position confirmed for blind acquisition before I move.  Eyes never off the road.   Generally don't eat until I am on a divided highway and always stay in the right lane.  Don't pick up the food until I have a good separation from traffic.  I do get a lot of chili on my face and shirt.  Ditto for any drink.  Pull off the road for clean up if I spill or drop something.

I never use a cell phone while driving.

I was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Texas.  Love both places.  Have heard - and told - a lot of jokes about both.  I wonder if you have read Baja Oklahoma by Dan Jenkins.  It will give a little different perspective on the phrase, same as he does for Fort  Worth (versus Dallas) and Paschal High (versus any other) and TCU (ditto).

I wonder if Sonic would cut the footlong in half and wrap it in two pieces of whatever they use (paper/foil). Helpful if someone's arm is in a cast.

Never put a foot long in your mouth while driving.  You might hit a bump.

I would think they would. They serve it in a thick paper tray and put the tray in a long bag sized to fit.

I think Sonic  makes the best Limeade for a "fast food place" How great they taste on a hot Carolina day. When it comes to eating while driving.. well if you are prepared to wear a bit of your lunch,so be it. Texting while driving is far more dangerous to all than a Chili dog...or trying to dial and talk on a cell phone. My Mother and I had a close call on Thursday with someone doing that.

I tried the new Sonic Footlong Quarter Pound Coney. I ordered it with chili, melted cheese, and (chopped white) onions. I thought it was good, but not up to the standard of the hot dogs found at the best roadfood places. There was no "Oh Wow" factor.

I was unable to identify who made the hot dog. The ends of the skinless dog were not covered with anything, so was able to taste just the dog. The predominant flavor was that of added liquid smoke. The chili was meaty, with the flavor profile very similar to Hormel canned chili.

The coney also did not look like in the commercials on Youtube or in photos on the website. I'm not sure you get as much chili and cheese as seen on the ads. Either that or they took the pictures a split second after they put the chili and cheese on the dog. Gravity will pull the chili and cheese down into the bun.

I might have to try one of these. The Sonic here has generally be really good as far as the quality of the food. I cant complain about the burgers(Though Culvers is still the best for fast food).

Had one with fries and an ice tea for lunch yesterday----as i have said in the past--i am not a big fan of the hot dogs in Oklahoma--but this one isnt bad---surprisingly tasty dog with good chilli--and it really is a footlong---and not one of them pencil thin ones either-----until i can get back to New England at the holidays and get split top buttered and toasted buns with a good natural casing dog--this is my hot dog of choice here in Oklahoma!

The Sonic footlong coney is a perfect example of "quantity over quality". I tried one with low expectations, and wasn't dissapointed.
