Sonoran Dog and Taco Truck in Tucson area

Just got back from spending a few days in Tucson, and gotta tell you about a place some friends who live there took me to. It's a man and his wife in a pull behind trailer located on Sahaurita in front of Green Valley Pecan Factory. They've been going there at lunch, and took me there Thursday. Had my first Sonoran Dog, along with a carne asada taco and red chile taco. Unbelievable! It's called El Checo Mexican food. Had people lining up when we arrived, and lined up when we left. Three of us ate well for under $14! Any other such places in Tucson area that I can tell them about that they may not know? They've lived there a couple of years, but I'm sure they don't know every place. Thanks.

It may be the same guy for all I know but there's a seller of Sonoran dogs every Wednesday at the Green Valley Farmers' Market at the Green Valley Mall, Esperanza Blvd (the mall sits right at the exit off I-19). Also, there used to be one in front of Lowe's on Valencia Blvd up I-19 but I haven't been there in a while so don't know if he's still there. Good to know about the one at the Pecan Factory. I didn't until now.

I know Tucson very very well but have not experienced a sonoran dog yet. These dogs seem to be a very new trend cuz it's the first time I've heard of them & I'm well read. Acording to the recent issue of, 'Rachel Ray' magazine she went all over the nation & rated 64 most recommended hot dog places. 'Agui Con El Nene' there in Tucson made it to the top four!

Tucson, Az.’s Best: 1) Cafe Poca Cosa: The Poca Cosa Plate & Chocolate mouse 4 dessert: order by 4pm as the menu price doubles after 4 but the food portions & quality remain the same. perplexing, I know 2) Janos J-Bar: The veggie nachos & the pulled pork nachos. I've had everything on the J-Bar menu & the nachos are the BEST thing here. order nothing else

I've had my house here for 10 years and they've been around for most of that time. I started a thread on them in 2007: http://www.roadfood.com/F...6&high=Sonoran+dog Does that count as "very recent"? If so, I quoted something in that thread that says they became popular in Tucson in the 1980s but have been around since the 1960s.

^^^I'll cop to uppity doctor, OK? I was just trying to make a point that it's always dangerous to argue that something couldn't have been _________ 'cause I (the speaker) didn't know it was. As I pointed out in the second post above, I didn't know Sonoran dogs were available nearby every day for my lunch, but I wouldn't argue the place that is there to provide them must have opened shop yesterday therefore. To the contrary, I'm just delighted they are available and I suggest anyone visiting Tucson who hasn't tried one (that would be your cue fortbethel) do so forthwith. They are good.

Slotmansc, Or the Roadfood home page there's the "Search Local Eats" box. Type in Tucson, AZ (Don't forget the comma) and it will pull up 21 reviews on Tucson plus one in Nogales. Most were posted by the Sterns.

Acording to the recent issue of, 'Rachel Ray' magazine she went all over the nation & rated 64 most recommended hot dog places. 'Agui Con El Nene' there in Tucson made it to the top four! With all due respect fortbethel, If you haven't experienced a Sonoran Dog and think it's a "very new trend" then you really don't know Tucson "Very, very, well". Pima County Health Department spokeswoman Sharon Browning says there are 630 mobile food vendors in the county that are inspected twice annually. Most of Tucson's bacon-wrapped dogs are sold out of roadside carts. Source: http://azstarnet.com/entertainment/dining/article_1cd490c0-195f-537b-924d-380d69227998.html The article also states that they started selling them in the 1970's. With that many carts on the streets it would be nearly impossible to not be aware of Sonoran Dogs. According to this posting, they were sold in Tucson as far back as the 1960's: http://www.roadfood.com/EatingTours/5/tucson-sonoran-hot-dogs Point being, Sonoran Dogs have been a Tucson Institution for many, many years. Perhaps you need to read some more.

fortbethel No, I want to know where this pix were taken Tony. Change the tone Mr. Moderator ;) Stop acting like a fool. It appears rather clear you were wrong here and instead of admitting that you have been acting like a spoiled child. Now lets put on our big boy pants, admit that we don't know everything, and move on. Okay? Third and final request. Please lets return the discussion to the Sonoran Dog and Taco Truck in Tucson area. No more of this nonsense.
