I read and enjoyed James Lee Burkes Jolie Blon's Bounce. Had a nice flavor of the south. I've been looking for more that are similar. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hey Robichaux. Went down to LA last August with my daughter. I'm from New Iberia, not too far from Breaux Bridge. Ate a wonderful burger at the Country Cafe in Delcambre, LA. Would be a nice ride for you. It is located at Highway 14 at the redlight. Sorry I don't need a guide since I know plenty of back home. Live in Morganton, NC but am trying to find my way back someday.

Robichaux, no I haven't but will try one day. I've posted in hamburger section of the forum about Bonus Burger. It is now a Popeye's. It is located at a redlight on Pinhook. You can see Lafayette General Hospital from there. They made the best hamburger, fishburgers and onion rings I've ever eaten. I've done a yahoo search on Bonus Burger but nothing was listed. Obviously the whole chain closed. Thanks for the reply back.

We spent a couple of days in Kinder last week, and I have to tell you I had the best hamburger I have had in my entire life at Fastous. The food was so good, we ate every meal there! My favorite was the hamburger steak dinner. A luscious hamburger steak topped with onions and served with mashed potatoes and brown gravy with a cup of coleslaw and a pistolette. Heaven! All for 6.99.

Fausto's is great, there is also one around De Quincy. Their fried shrimp and fried catfish beat out the casino food.

Hi, new person on the block here. I think Prejeans in Lafayette is highly overrated. I have eaten there four times and neither time was I impressed. IThe only reason I went back was because I was with people that wanted to try it out for themselves. Also ate at Enola's and that sure didn't do anything for me. Someone even said that Don's Seafood and Steak house and Ruth Chris Steak house for some reason wasn't as good there. I know there are some fabulous restaurants around there but where?????

Actually, the casino in Kinder has great hamburgers, with tiny thin crispy onion rings. The casino in Baldwin has a wonderful sit-down shrimp dinner at a low price, used to be 6 or 7 dollars. This is the full meal price--soup and salad and 12 large fried shrimp and go withs and dessert. Often two people share this.

My wife and I ate at the Dons in downtown Lafayette after the Mardi Gras parade in...2000? Think so. If they'd gone downhill before then, I tremble to think what they must have been like before, because this was one of the finest seafood meals I've ever had, topped off with a truly lovely etoufee that put my previous experiences with the dish (from the days when my parents lived on the Texas gulf coast) in the dust. Although personally, my favorite food memory of that trip was sitting on the steps of the Masonic Hall in Houma with a couple boudin and a beer. We're not getting back this year, but I'm pressing for next.

I used to travel frequently in South LA, mostly Baton Rouge, working with various state government programs. There was, and still is, I think, a great little restaurant right downtown called Po Boy Lloyd's. I tried every flavor of Po Boy (shrimp, catfish, oyster, mixed), and all were really good. Fresh seafood, fresh bread and they'd put muffaletta paste on if you asked. They also did one large pot of red beans and hamhocks, andouille sausage and boudin a day, which was just heaven. The prices were very inexpensive, and it was right accross the street from the hotel I stayed in. I haven't been there in some years, but if you're anywhere near BR on I-10, its worth a stop.

Parasol's, Domilicis, Liusas, Camilla Grill, Cafe du Monde, Charlie's Steakhouse, Commander's, Galatorie's.........New Orleans has 'em all. I'm from NO town but live in England. The thing I miss most about Louisiana is the educational system....No, I lie. I miss the little things....."we live to eat"....No where (you saw it here first) no where in the world is food as good as it is in Louisiana (anywhere Louisiana). Crawfish, Crabs, Shrimp (what the hell are prawns?)soft shells, RB & R's.....I gotta go cry. Loved reading the replies. All the best ya'll. Skip

Prejan's is so overrated and Don's Seafood & Steakhouse is just a chain now and a broken one at that. Robins in Henderson is great and well worth the short drive. The very best though is Joe's Dryfus Store (a cajun restaurant in Livonia, La.) This is some of the very best food I have ever eaten in my life and I am a New Orleans, La. regular.

There are two Don's in Lafayette--another family restaurant split. The original Don's is downtown and great and not a chain. I believe that Don's Seafood Hut on Johnston is affilliated with others (Beaumont, for example.)

South Louisiana is more like Venice or Grand Isle. The food there is totally different than New Orleans, Lafayette or I guess anyother place in Louisiana. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN
