Southern Calif fires threaten Julian Pie Co. store

Per CNN, the historic mining town of Julian, CA is being
threatened by advancing flames. Julian is also the location
of one of two company retail outlets and bakeries.

After watching a segment on the Julian Pie Co. (that included
Mr. Stern) on the Travel Channel, if I wasn't interested in
the fire(s) before, I am, now. If the worst happens, this will
be a real loss to Roadfooder's everywhere. The TC show stated that people even drive up from Mexico for a taste of these pies.
Pray for rain-and no more wind.

The Otay Fire in east county Sandiego was threatening Dulzura and the Dulzura Cafe, a serious spot for great hamburgers and cold beer (also the only building in this rural burg/oasis, other than the post office which may qualify for the smallest post office in the US-if it is 8x8 I would be suprised). According to the San Diego Tribune the fire burned 94,000 acres on the west side of 94 all the way to and across the border. Not a single home was burned. That is some serious testimony to both the ruralness of the area and to the skill of the firefighters, who were assigned to guard against INDIVIDUAL homes burning. One truck, one home. I think that they are doing this in a number of areas.
