Sounds like a good time, my wife and I will be there at 1pm.

Jonjax its all about priority's........Sister In Law's Wedding?.......Meet and Greet?....No Question......Meet Greet!  Sorry you can't be with us. There will be pictures I am sure.  Enjoy the Wedding! LOL

You're right, it's about priorities. I much rather meet n greet, hang out and eat some meaty. tasty sandwiches at Phillipe's just a 25 minute drive down the world's first freeway-the Pasadena Fwy from my home, however keeping the peace at home and my wife happy is my priority which is why I agreed to accompany her to her sister's wedding, she did give in and concede to my wish to go from there another hour north to visit our friends we haven't seen in about 3 years.
One hand washes the other and they both wash the face....

JonJax,
You haver voiced the basic outline to a successful marriage !  Congratulations! Hopefully the SoCal Roadfooders will find this sort of activity to be so much fun they will do 'follow-up' sessions more often than the past intervals !
Also, Hopefully the cost of travel will remain at or near the current level, so that driving to a meet-up isn't a major budget buster!
With that in mind, I will note that we are buying Janet a RT airfare from Louisville to Ontario for less than $200 (Travelocity) so that she can do a weekend with her mother in May. I will dog-sit and mow during her "Spring Break trip"

You are absolutely correct on both counts. I recently celbrated my 35th anniversary of very happy matrimony mostly peaks, just a few small valleys along the way

We left Pasadena about Midnight, I like traveling at night- on our leisurely drive up the central artery of Cali to the state capitol Sacramento-Sac Town arriving about 10am after having breakfast along the way and taking a few rest stops, no hurry were we. We haven't been to Sacramennto in about 7 or 8 years, it is no long as Lakers coach once called it, a "cow town", it 's very urban and cosmopolitan now, they did a wonderful job along the Riverwalk area where we had a fine late lunch. The one thing we didn't coumt on when we planned this trip 5 weeks ago was how much the cost of gas has gone up

I know all of you will have a good ol' good time, Phillipe's is a magnificent eatery and is in a great part of Los Angeles, China Town, the former Litttle Italy and Olvera Strret all right there. Union Station, the Red Line, the Scatter Around mini-bus, Elysian Park, Dodger Stadium, Little Tokyo, not too far from Downtown, Bunker Hill, Grand central Market, Angel's Flight, the Disney Performance Theater, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, no shortage of things to do and see. Heck, even the original Daily Planet building is in view  :>)

Phillipes is busy on Sundays, but upstairs is always empty ...the only problem is sometimes parking. You can park in the train station lot if you can't find street parking.

And the best place on Olvera Street is not the over-rated el cielito lindo. It is la Luz.

If I don't have an event that night we'll rock Koreatown with you too!!!!

Both is right!

Anyone ever have Nopalitos?

It's diced cactus leaves that they had at La Luz del Dia the last time I was there.  I'm not a fan, but maybe one of you might be. It's definitely different.

The hand made tortillas are delicious and there's probably enough space for all of us to sit.

Big Glenn
,

Your progeny is more than welcome!

Hey, it would be great to hang out with you Monday too.... I'll be staying in Redondo Beach, but I'm thinking Monday would be  a perfect day for a late morning smoothie stop at....

Juices Fountain...

http://www.yelp.com/biz/juices-fountain-hollywood

Then an afternoon taco and burrito run in East LA at

Los Cincos Puntos

http://www.yelp.com/biz/los-cinco-puntos-los-angeles

and

El Tepeyec

http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-tepeyac-cafe-los-angeles

I was also thinking of checking out Pasadena that day...

and then Japanese for dinner

Daichan in Studio City

http://www.yelp.com/biz/daichan-studio-city

And again, anyone else who wants to join me next Monday at any of these stops is more than welcome..

If you're not tired with me by Monday I'd love to join you for dinner.  I work on Ventura Bl a little down the road in Sherman Oaks.

I've been to El Tepeyec and they make a killer burrito.  It's in Boyle Heights where 90% of the residents in the 40's were Jewish.  Not so anymore!

If you see a street vendor selling Elote (corn) you must stop and slather it with mayo, lime juice, chili, hot sauce and cheese. OMG it's good!  Cesar Chavez Bl is the main street through Boyle Heights.

It's just a little bit east from Phillipe's.

I had 2 teeth pulled and surgery done on my jawbone last Friday and I'm so looking forward to this.  Right now it's soup and yogurt!

Well, mar52....don't feel all alone. I fell at Disneyland Sunday, sprained my wrists and lost my two front teeth. Was at the Dentist today for root canals and preperation for new front teeth. I won't get the temporarys until next week. This weekend I am going to be looking kinda funny. But I will be there. what a way to start a vacation......LOL

Mar52,

You're more than welcome to join us at Daichan on Monday Evening....

I'm still not sure how many are going to be at parks, it seems that it's going to be at least 6 or more. I can always call in a reservation for 8 and see what happens.

Well only 4 days away. I'm flying in to San Diego on Friday. I should be arriving just after 6pm pacific time...Let's see if anyone can guess where I plan on stopping for dinner...

It's been a lot of fun following this thread and it has been good to hear from Big Glenn. Hope your dental surgery has gone well, sir. Both Elise and Dale have hung out with me in Portland and I regret I can't join the gang at Phillipe's, a wonderful roadfood memory for me.

I doubt if WJ would even go to Rubio's while he is in San Diego since it is a chain.  I know my first stop would be El Indio for fish tacos!  Besides, with all the neon, the place looks great at night.

Unfortunately I may not make it to El Indio on this trip, however there will be a
fish taco smackdown later on in my trip.

WJ-
You and your SoCal burgers!!!  I personally would wait and go the next day, because you know you will run into a line at Hodad's.  But, of course, those burgers and shakes are so good, it is worth the wait!  May fortune smile on you and you get to sit inside the VW bus.

WJ, I sure wish I could join you and the others; I haven't been to southern Cal. in almost 25 years. In fact, I would consider making the trip except for one lil' problem -  just the thought of flying turns my blood into ice water ( yup, I'm one of those! ) Kindly think of me when you're enjoying that In-N-Out burger.
