Bay and Hay!

Oh, my favs were the BBQ and the oyster sandwich from Accokeek MD and the rockfish from St. George's Island, where I sit right now, the Potomac in front, a creek from Chesapeake Bay behind.

Sounds like plenty of good eats to pack in to one weekend! It's been too many years since I have visited the area, we mostly travel to New Mexico or Northern Minnesota but I think it's time for a east coast visit again!

I was surprised at the variety. Frankly I was disappointed by the stuffed ham, a hyper-local speciality. But the oysters, rockfish, hush puppies with honey, and BBQ were delish. It was an interesting area, with Chesapeake bay and many tributaries all around, sailboats, old colonial architecture and history, too. A nice weekend trip. We stayed at St. George's Island, with direct water views on each side of the hotel.

Too bad you did post any pix. I first visited Piney Point about 55 years ago (a guess) and I returned again only about 8 years ago. That drive to St George's is some trip with water on both sides. http://goo.gl/Tu60p On the last visit the wife and I shared some shrimp and I ordered some oysters. They brought out the oysters steamed and when I looked disappointed, they realized I expected them raw. They left the steamed ones anyway and also brought me a dozen raw. 55 years ago there was an old hotel and I think my parents had some history there. We stayed a night or two in the hotel even though it was closed. I remember communal bathrooms and chamber pots. I wish I could remember more. If I go back I'd like to get a tour of the SIU facility there.
