I don't eat meat, but I love the soysages, and Loma Linda canned hot dogs. No bad stuff inside a soy dog. I just can't deal with the thoughts of eating meat any more after viewing a film about the meat industry.

Did you stop wearing leather?--just wondering--NOT an attack! I was a vegan for a long time myself. Actually there was a LomaLinda product that i really like alot--Nuteena---made a great sandwich "Salad"--but the "fake meat" products always seemed somehow weird---Soy "Cutlets"--"Chops"--"all those ones that were made to look like meat produsts--i looked at them one time and thought--Good Lord--i,m still "eating meat in my heart" to borrow a term from Jimmy Carter! Went back to eating meat after that---how ever --i DO make a point of killing my own every now and then----sort of excepting the karma of the kill instead of buying it in those neat plastic packs all the time!

I eat vegetarian much of the time too. I have no philosophical objections to eating meat. I just like a lot of vegetarian foods and I understand that in most cases they are better for me. But I draw the line at "fake" anything. I have tried a variety of soy meat substitutes and haven't found one yet I'd eat twice.

Just give me a bowl of beans 'n rice (any kind of beans: red, black, Caribbean "peas", whatever).

I did the vegan thing for two years and stopped. Quite frankly I could do it again. I believe I could do salads everyday but then again I thought that before.

When I did the vegan thing, I never preferred the fake meat and I did do cheese. I guess I was not a true vegan.

Most of the Vegetarians i've ever known were fat. Being a Vegan is cool if you're a hippy, cool that's all.

I don't care for any of it. My vegetarian wife is partial to the Boca products though. Since over 90% of American soybeans are genetically modified, I hardly see the sense in it. Boca to its credit, does offer non-GMO soy based products at a premium price.

I agree with the other posters here that urge you to go natural with beans, rice, cheese etc. I know my vegetarian soups are always a hit even with total carnivores. They are popular because they are one dish meals, very hearty and somewhere in between a soup and a stew.

You can make your own vegetable broth for these soups, but I don't bother. I use Imagine Vegetable Broth and just add in-season vegetables or whatever I happen to have on hand

Me = fat, yes; cool, probably not.

                  Do I qualify?

One additional bit of evidence: Even though Haight St. is within walking distance, I haven't been in a "head shop" in maybe 10 years.

My input is strictly about the taste of the soy dogs... I've tried em all, and to my taste buds they are a HUGE abomination to the name "hot dog"... BBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEECCCCCH!!!!

Now having said this let me say I've enjoyed soy burgers, and especially soy chicken products... but the hot dogs were obviously fashioned by someone who has never tasted the real thing.

Hey Tiramisu... Just went thru a few other threads and had to come back to this one... Hopefully you didnt take what I said personal... You're welcome to your own tastes! Though I cant see eating a soy based dog, I on the other hand cant see you not being able to enjoy a delicious meat stuffed intestine... Guess we all have our own tastes, and appreciate your comments on your favorites! Again, I want to apologize and hope you keep your tastes and comments comming!

I'm a card-carrying carnivore (vas vegan for about 2 years in the 90's), and I really like tofu corn-dogs. Veggie bacon ain't bad either if you get it crisp enough. Spicy black bean burgers are great if done correctly.

                        To each his own!
