Since we were just talking about great movies, or was that yesterday? Well anyhow, AOL has a great article today on The Great Romantic Comedies. They talk about the wit and sarcasm of the 30' and 40's and how great Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy etc were back then-- and then they list their top 15 of recent memoty-----I agree with 6 made from 1981 to today------ Arthur Moonstruck-----great in any era When Harry Met Sally----I'll have what she's eating (shot at Katz's) Sleepless in Seattle---The Empire State Building is in a lot of movies My Big Fat Greek Wedding----funny movie, don't miss it Somethings Got To Give---loved the kitchen in the Hamptons And that's it for a warm Sunday Morning in St Pete. Aloha !!!!

When Harry Met Sally=Sleepless in Seattle=You've Got Mail Nora Ephron either wrote or directed all 3- not that it really took much effort. She really stretches out and takes chances- she essentially made the same formulaic movie 3 times- you can watch the first 10 minutes and figure out the ending.

Don't see It's Complicated but the list may be too complicated for me to comprehend. The lastest entry is City Island. I did not see the movie, but have been to City Island many times. There used to be some good seafood restaurants out there. I loved Cary Grant movies---he and Robert Mitchum are my favorite actors---and Kate Hepburn was my favorite actress. Sat across a counter from her as we had lunch at Chuck-Ful-o-nuts on the corner of Madison and 54th Sts NYCity. She had tea or coffee and date nut bread with cream cheese.

Cary Grant and Bogie taught me many things about life and most of their movies are memory treasures.

Mon Cap-ee-tan Bringing Up Baby and His Girl Friday are considered examples of the art---back when people didn't need to blow each other up or fly off into space. Cary Grant is in each, of course. Born Yesterday was a fun movie---loved Judy Holliday. Paul Douglas was a sports announcer before getting into movies and was always a big stiff. I never saw Pillow Talk. Always found Doris Day too cutsy. I am a Katherine Hepburn guy. As Tracy said----she may be thin but every piece is choice (or something like that). Now, on the other hand, My Man Godfrey was a winner. Loved it. The Thin Man strikes again--- William Powell was great---loved him in Mr Roberts. Chips .old man. I thought you would be a Robert Donat devotee.

I just wish I looked as snappy in a double-breasted suit and snap brim fedora as Cary Grant does.

Mr Engine Capt--- I voted Gary#1 guy who looked great in a tuxedo. It was nip and tux with Sean Connery. Sean won for best Russian Sub Commander uniform. So sorry about your not looking snappy, Cappy----I guess some of us have it and some ---well what can I tell ya ? Judy, Judy, Judy was fun. Too bad she passed away so young.

Mosca that was way back when----almost before my time---eddie bracken and Betty Hutton-----saw it at the NY Paramount in the heart of Times Square. Can't tell you what the stage show was, but I know it was great, because they all were great.

Mosca-------forget the Miracle---- it was in 1944 --- the list starts in 1980. Back in '44 there were a zillion good movies, but since '80 only 15 good Romantic Comedies according to the writers. By the way-----the next Miracle---The Miracle of 2010 will be seen at ND Stadium--------Coach Kelly is creating a monster out in South Bend. It will be like Godzilla desending on Tokyo--------hang on to your fedora.

One of the really great (in my opinion) but overlooked Cary Grant/Katharine Hepburn movies is "Holiday." Everyone knows about "Bringing Up Baby" and "The Philadelphia Story," and I love them, too, but "Holiday" is just a joy. And it is showing tonight, on the BIG screen, at the Heights theater ("the oldest continuously-operating showhouse" in the Twin Cities) in Columbia Heights, MN. I can't wait. I love this movie, and I've never seen it except on VHS or DVD.

Hold the phone there Saps------those 8 kids won't ever do it again----they ran their ass off and puked their guts out. And what 18 year old didn't have a few beers when a freshman in college. I once drank 1/2 a bottle of Southern Comfort because I could not find anything else and woke too late for breakfast. Rumaki I never heard of Holiday, I will have to look it up. You have pulled a fast one on me. Mr Chips, old chap, I seem to have skipped over your post by accident. Forgive me. It is very interesting----what did you learn for Cary Grant and Bogie? I would be interested to know. Mosca-----Our gang will be in South Bend on Sept 11th for the thrashing of the the MIchigan Wolverines. It is going to be an exciting year.

And when Peter O'Toole played me in the musical version of "Good-Bye Mr. Chips", I liked his look if not the movie.

Heartbreak Kid (the 1972 version, not the recent remake) would get my vote.

Bogie and Grant(or better put their on-screen personas) gave me valued lessons about how to be male; Bogie's toughness, knight errant quests and persona were a model of how to act when in difficult situations; grant's elegance and grace were a model of how to act with women. I learned a lot watching them and Cary Grant remains one of my favorite actor to watch for his wondrous style.

They are no different than any other students at any other University. There are worse things that they can be doing. See any variety of SEC schools.
