"Special Soup"

Any help here? I found a great family run Mexican restaurant last week in the Atlanta area. I happpened to have a great seafood soup as my entree. It was only referred to as the "Soupa Especial". It had a fish based broth and was crammed full of clams & mussels in the shell, shrimp in the shell, calamari, and a small filet of boneless fish, Tapia (sp?). The only thing that came with it were four slices of toasted garlic bread. I licked the bowl clean. Any recipes out there from the RF gang?

Adjudicator: There is a Mexican restaurant in Knoxville that serves the attached recipe about one week out of the year. I have had it and what I have seems to be close. Hopefully it helps. It has some heat added and is very good. http://www.abc.net.au/goldcoast/stories/s337774.htm Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul: Thanks! Nothing wrong with the added heat. That's about the only thing my soup didn't have. I will be dining at this particular restaurant again next week, so I will be on the look-out for their rendition of same (with a recipe, hopefully in my pocket when I leave).

My favorite local Mexican restaurant serves 7 Mares caldo which has seven different seafoods in it. They include fish, crab, lobster, octopus, oysters, shrimp and squid. It has diced raw onions and avocado slices in it and is served with saltines and a special thin hot sauce on the side. I hate it as it is very difficult to try something else on the menu! As far from the ocean as we are in Milwaukee, I find this to be a real bargain at $13.99. Mostly seafood with just a few tablespoons of broth in it, it often is impossible to finish.

MFL, When I met you earlier this month at the Great Chicagoland Italian Beef Tour, you seemed like a very nice, likeable fellow. And yet, here you are, describing this tempting seafood stew that is served at your "favorite local Mexican restaurant," and you do not name the restaurant, leaving the rest of us drooling down the fronts of our shirts with no relief in sight. Just goes to show how you can misjudge a person. On the other hand, you could just tell us the name and location of this joint and all would be forgiven. Buddy

For seafood I'd head to Tres Hermanos on 11th & National Ave. You could take the National Av. exit on I-94 just south of downtown Milwaukee and head west just a few blocks. http://www.foodspot.com/3hermanos/national/index.html Milwaukee is blessed with a number of good Mexican restaurants but the 3 Hermans, as my buddy calls it, is my choice for that seafood soup. Hermanos, btw is Spanish for brothers. They have another location on 13th-14th & Lincoln and are partners in a white tablecloth place called El Rey Sol on 23rd & Forest Home/Muskego at Lincoln. There are other better choices for other Mexican dishes.

Thank you MFL, my original, positive opinion of you is restored. I know just where you're talking about. As I've stated in numerous posts, my favorite Milwaukee Mexican places are La Perla and La Fuente at 5th and National, not too far from the area you're talking about. We've got several trips planned for Milwaukee this season; I will be sure to check out Tres Hermanos on one of them. Thanks again, Buddy
