St Louis - Downtown Sports Bar needed

I am looking for a good sports bar near the St Louis Arch. I will be staying at Adam's Mark the night of a World Series game. No car, so walking distance from the Arch would be great! Nothing fancy needed...just a good sports bar with hot wings, cold beer, greasy burgers, and a lively crowd. All help appreciated. Mark

We went to a sports bar called "Jacques" in the City Center Sheraton near the Savvis Center last year for NCAA wrestling. Nothing special and it was crowded but simple, fresh food and cold beer. There are a bunch of sports bars in Union Station, we did not get to those though. Next year I'd like to explore a little more. Are you going to the world series, I am so jealous! GO SOX!

I would suggest Al Hrabosky's Ballpark Saloon at 800 Cerre St. near the stadium (or 5 blocks from your hotel) Al Hrabosky used to be a Cardinal player and currently does broadcast work for Fox. Be warned this is not a fancy place, more like a local watering hole than anything else. Go Cards!!!!!

If you head toward Union Station, try Maggie O'Briens, practically next door, on Market St. It's a great Irish pub,and is well attended by sports fans. TYhey even run a small shuttle bus to many events.

The papers are reporting (Monday) that a convention of 12,000 kidney doctors are in St. Louis at the same time as the series, and hotel space is at a premium. Meaning more crowded than even expected.

Thanks for the advice. I will be attending the American Society of Nephrology meeting with all of the Kidney docs. This group locked-up every downtown hotel 10 months ago. Looks like turnabout, as the Sox will have to stay in the suburbs, just like the Cards were forced to do in Boston. Yahoo maps shows Maggie O'Briens 1 mile away. Too far to walk. Al Hrabosky's Ballpark Saloon looks like it is more than 5 blocks away, but sounds like my kinda place. Looks like it opened up last week. How's the food?
