St. Louis to Wisconsin Dells right now. Help on good roadfood on the way. Especially once we hit Wisconsin border or close to that. Can't seem to find anything on DIners Drive Ins and Dives. I know the Dells is touristy, so looking for a good non chain place for a dinner in the Dells. Not toooo expensive, about 12 of us.

calamariveal - I found a couple non-touristy places 2 years ago near the Dells. I wrote about them here. Cimaroli's will be perfect for your large group. I don't know if they take reservations, so you may have to drink a few Brandy Old Fashioned's in their bar before dining. Jim

I 2nd Cimaroli's. Bob and I ate their a few years ago while staying near there for a weekend wedding celebration. I had the 10 oz. flat iron, and Bob had a filet. Both were excellent. The salads were fresh( love that you can add blue cheese!) and a great supper club feel.

We were in the Dells last fall on a family vacation; we had the kids, so we were a little heavy on family friendly places. Monks was the best family friendly place we went to. Moosejaw Brew and Pizza was a bit of a disappointment. Best meal we had was one night when we got a sitter and went to the Highrock Cafe. Simply outstanding; http://www.highrockcafe.com/about.html on your way to the Dells, stop in Springfield, Illinois for lunch at Cozy Dog, or in Rockford at The Machine Shed. Both are worth a visit. http://www.cozydogdrivein.com/ http://www.machineshed.com/locations/rockfordLocation.html I know the Machine Shed is a chain, but the Sterns have reviewed it on Roadfood.

Consider this another vote for the burgers at Monk's. Other places in the Dell's with good food: Taste of New Orleans, Mexicali Rose and breakfast at the Country Keg Saloon. Also: Madison, WI is full of restaurants. Here are three that I reccommend: Kabul's (Afgahani), Baraka (African) and Himal Chuli (cuisine of Nepal). All three of these are located on State Street between the University and the Capitol building. In downtown Bloomington, IL you can enjoy great pizza at Lucca Grill. Have a good trip. calamariveal St. Louis to Wisconsin Dells right now. Help on good roadfood on the way. Especially once we hit Wisconsin border or close to that. At I-90 exit 163 you can head east into Newville for a burger at the Anchor Inn or some Cajun food at Emigail's. They're 2 of my local favorites. Brad

In the Dells, definitely MONKS. Definitely. Don't bother with the Paul Bunyan Cook shanty...that place is a joke. Sarentos has great pizza...they are on Dells Parkway South. Best pizza we've had in the Dells so far. Don't go to Pizza Pub...really really bad pizza. Not to anyone's liking in our group. If you stick with Monks' and Sarentos you will be more than happy.
