Stafford or Sanchez...who got the better QB?

The Lions took Stafford at #1 & then the Jets traded up to take Sanchez at #5. Both teams needed a long term solution at the position, so did either or both fill their need? I like Sanchez long term, but he needs some time. Still not sure about Stafford.

Shoot man, no way to tell if either one of them is going to turn out as P Manning/Roethlisberger/Brees or as Leinert/Couch/McNown. All 8 guys named had about the same buzz. It's 50/50 if either Stafford or Sanchez will play consistently, let alone play up to contract.

Time will tell; it's always a crap shoot. I'm curious as to what The Ancient "Stafford won't even be in the first round" Mariner and Baah "Porkbeaks..You think Georgia's QB is good? I respectfully disagree" Ben have to say. Oh yeah, how's the crow guys? pb

pb: Still don't know whether they will be any good, but evidently the Lions' and the Jets' GMs think so. I don't know about #5, but that #1 draft position is worth a lot of dough - guaranteed.

I said it and I'm glad----Stafford will prove to be a bust---if he survives behind the Lion Line. After a few sacks he may be behind the Lion line lying still with a lily in his hand. Sleeper QB----Rhett Bomar 5th round to the NY Giants-----reminds me of Farve a little. Stafford will not have to worry about where his next plate of bar-b-q is coming from though. He can afford T-Bone now.

Stafford may be a winner, who knows-----actually the Lions are not noted for making good picks---the last one was Doak Walker I think---------so suppose we table this discussion until 2014 and then re-convene at the nearest Roadfood joint between St Pete and Hoschton that is still in business. No bar-b-q though. Did you notice that the Lions did pick a wide receiver named Williams -------- they do that every year, one of these days one will be able to catch a ball.

Oh yeah, how's the crow guys? pb pb, buddy, this reminds me of the time that my friend from Cleveland was razzing me after the draft: "Your Steelers are done, pal, because we drafted TIM COUCH!!!!" I hope they're both good; good football is what makes the games fun to watch. But neither has even shown up in training camp yet, let alone taken a snap in anger. The game is different when the slowest guy on the field is as fast as the fastest guy you were used to playing against. I wish them well, but their cart hasn't even been hitched to the wagon yet.

Did you notice they did not commit to come out until after all the other GOOD QB's committed to stay in school? The only reason Stafford & Sanchez came out this year was because they knew they could not be as high a draft choice next year with the GOOD QB's coming out. S & S would be 2nd, 3rd-4th round picks next year at best.

Food Bee You----that is very interesting------Sanchez's coach at USC, Pete Carroll, told him he was making a mistake, that he would not be in the first round with his ability and experience. Soooooo you may very well be right. It certainly is a good point.

Foodbme S & S would be 2nd, 3rd-4th round picks next year at best. Your crystal ball must be working better than mine because you apparently already know how they would fare in the 2009 season and what teams would be looking for in the 2010 draft... But I see your point. If things stay the same the number of high-profile QBs in 2010 will be greater than in 2009, which makes Stafford and Sanchez bigger fish in a smaller pond. And for the most part projections tend to rely on the status quo and expected changes and not the unexpected. Brad

The only reason Stafford & Sanchez came out this year was because they knew they could not be as high a draft choice next year with the GOOD QB's coming out. S & S would be 2nd, 3rd-4th round picks next year at best. So if Stafford and Sanchez stayed in school this year, you know for a fact that they would have had lesser years than Bradford, Tebow, McCoy, etc? Who's to say that Stafford and Sanchez wouldn't have increased their draft stock with another year of seasoning? And you're going to tell me that the #1 and #5 picks in this year's draft would have been drafted in rounds 2-4? Tebow, of course, will follow in a line of great U of F quarterbacks that also made a name for themselves in the pros: John Reaves, Danny Wuerffel, Jesse Palmer, Chris Leak, Rex Grossman. Tebow has more detractors in the pros right now than he does champions. He's a unique talent, but he works out of a spread offense geared to running. He may be a better runner than a pro-style quarterback. McCoy and Bradford work out of spread offenses as well, so it's possible that Stafford and Sanchez would still lead the pack.

Last year, I gave my take on Stafford. After watching him compete vs Florida and others in the SEC...Just my opinion. We shall see. I see another Joey Harrington in the Lion's future. Gotta give the Jets some props for at least stepping out. We shall see. GO JETS!!!

I was pretty surprised that Harrell didn't get drafted. I mean Teel out of rutgers gets drafted but not Harrell? I was pretty surprised. I really hope Pat White does well, even if it is not at quarterback. I enjoyed watching that guy play.

Harrell didn't get a contract, but did get invited to a Browns' rookie camp. Does the Raiders first round pick indicate that family, friends & employees should think about an intervention with Al Davis?

Intervention? That train's left the station...involuntary commitment may be more appropriate now! Brad

Fattybomatty - The Dolphins are getting much smarter since Big Tuna arrived. It is going to be interesting if they can keep improving. Pat White will be a good test.

baah ben, I am very interested to see how pat white does. I am rooting for the guy myself. Didn't someone even say he looked the best out of all the qb's at the combine?
