Starting a food challenge, can this be done? Sat, 05/16/09 1:14 PM (permalink)
In hopes of someday being on Man vs. Food or whatever, I'm doing a food challenge, it going to go like this, 2 of my special burgers plus 2 or 3 lbs of fries in an hour. My special burger consists of 2- 1/2 lb cheeseburgers with 2 flayed Louisiana hot links on top of them, a toasted bottom kaiser on top of that, then a repeat on top of the bottom kaiser, in other words 4-1/2 lb burgers 4 hot links and you have to do 2 of them with the fries in an hour. 8 burgers, 8 links the rolls the fries. Do it and there is no charge, your picture is on the wall of fame, a tee shirt, $100.00 food gift certificate. Loose and you pay $39.95. I'm calling it "The Avalanche" Do you all think this is possible for anyone or too over the top?

I think it sounds like a great idea-I am thinking you should try it out on a few of your regular customers that tend to order alot of food....just my thoughts to see if it can be done realistically.

I think the authorities refer to this as "voluntary manslaughter".  :~)

Do any of you have a copy of the OLD Boy Scout "Field Book" ?? Not the 'Handbook for Boys", but the Brown-covered Field Book???  In it there was a photo of some scouts tending a HUGE Spit with a "Whole OX" on it, being turned by the Scouts.
I would love to participate in a "Whole Beef" over the coals sort of cooking activity.

I have attended Whole Hog BBQs both on a Spit-cooker and where an enclosed cooker was used. Both methods were outstanding , in my humble opinion!!

I have never been to an event where a Whole Beef...or Even a "Side of Beef" was cooked in one piece. I would really like to do that someday !

I have a feeling that eating a large quantity of the finished product would probably not be a major goal for me. When I do a couple of Pork Butts, I find that my desire for the meat diminishes as the cooking comes closer to completion!

I think I'll live vicariously through your customers. Eagles Deli in Boston www.eaglesdeli.com started a burger challenge and as the previous record was broken the new record was the new challenge. Maybe start with one special burger and 2 or 3 pounds of fries and see if anyone can do it, generate some buzz about the challenge, alert local media and go from there. Maybe as a goof make the challenger eat a small garden salad or drink a diet coke in addition to the burgers and fries. Another thought is to contact the international federation of competitive eating www.ifoce.com Maybe they could refer you to some eaters in your area.
              just my $ .02

Thats an awful serious challange.  It seems even tho the food would be free the only thing you would really win is a belly ache.
There was a mexican place in Columbus that offered a monster burrito.  If you ate the whole thing you won a tee shirt.  Not a mega challange but a doable one.  A good sized guy with a big appetite could usually finish one.  I ate there a lot bcause the food was great.  There were always parties of people were one or 2 or even more would give it a gi.  It was a fun deal for them  I think that would be a great prom.  it gets them involved and interested with out having a semi unbeatable challange thrown at them.  They still pay for your food and all your out is a teeshirt which is jsut fre averising for the promo

I think I would want anybody that wanted to try this to sign a wavier of liability saying they are doing it because they wanted to. It may not be anything but if it were me doing this I would want to have my bases covered. However it sounds like a good idea. Good luck.
